You can stay at Sonamarg on Day 1 but I will recommend you do not directly go to Leh either stay at Kargil or go over to Uley Topko or Alchi.. avoid Leh and Lamayuru on Day 2

Vipin bhai more or less it shall be OK to take the car as these days there is lot of tourists in season time and mostly they do not check too much. IF checked try to carry a NOC with you from your friend and solve the matter amicably with the folks explaining you are using a personal vehicle for personal use. Most likely you are not going to be checked but just in case be ready.

For hatchback/sedan taking on Manali - Leh Highway, Spiti Valley and Ladakh, I will say Possible = Yes, Difficult = Yes, at some places. You will indeed face few challenges on the route. The hatchback/sedan will increase the level of every challenge even further, sedan is the worst candidate. My suggestion will be to go via Srinagar route as it will help you feel comfortable with the driving, provide more acclimatization and then once you have done the local Leh-Ladakh, then come back via Manali side. Secondly, since you are in hatch/sedan, then you need to drive with extra care as well. There will be some sections on the Manali - Leh highway in which you might need to sacrifice some scratches on the underbelly. Just make sure you do not bump the engine sump (know it before where it is placed in your car). You need to protect it all around the trip. Thirdly, whenever in doubt do not rush into the section rather park aside and feel the section with your foot, see how other vehicles are crossing it and make a planned route in your mind to cross that section. For acclimatization, at any given day, I will advice/suggest taking flight to Srinagar then traveling by road to Leh with night stops at Srinagar, Kargil followed by a rest for a day in Leh OVER flying directly to Leh . However, I may favour flying directly to Leh and then taking two nights/days of rest in Leh for acclimatization OVER traveling to Leh via Manali.

Do you think the above is feasible? Considering I am okay driving 10+ hours 2. Is there any risk of driving after dark - safety wise and road-wise? 3. Any areas/timings of congestion that I should be aware of? Like Manali post 9am is unbelievably congested. So any areas or timings i should avoid? 4. Rahul bhai, in that case you should be OK traveling from Manali side too but like they say that you never know with AMS, who gets hit and how and when.. IF you can go, travel from Srinagar side but in case you want to completely avoid it then better stay one night at Solang, another at Jispa and then reach Leh directly. Avoid Sarchu sleep when going to Leh from Manali.

Now as of May 2024, you will find petrol pumps ar following places in Ladakh Leh, Karu near Leh, Diskit in Nubra , Tangtse near Pangong Lake, Nyoma petrol pump which near Hanle and Tso Moriri (Newly operational in 2024), petrol pump is at Nyoma not Hanle or Tso Moriri. Then if you exit on Manali Leh highway from Tso Moriri then next petrol pump will be Keylong. So if you are doing Ladakh circuits as above, you will need to manage about 290 km without petrol pump in case returning to Leh or Karu otherwise if you exit from Tso Moriri to Keylong/Manali then you need to manage about 420 km

Well, Sangla is on the other side unless you want to cover Jibhi and all and then go over Jalori Pass towards Sangla Valley and Kinnaur valley. Otherwise, you will need about 15-16 days for regular Ladakh circuit and Kasol, Jibhi, Rohtang.

Watched many videos, but the way you explained cleared my doubt of why should I take Srinagar route. Sir one question, me and my friend are planning to do a bike trip single way...like from Srinagar to Leh we will use public transport. And then we will start our bike journey from Leh to Srinagar and drop the bikes there at checking point. So just wanted to know that will we get bike on rent from Leh to Srinagar?

Thank you bhai.. I am glad my videos are helpful.. You will get rental bike one way but drop only charges are very costly like Rs 10000 for pick up only. Better travel in Ladakh on rented bike and then travel on Srinagar Leh and Leh to Srinagar by public transport.

I will recommend that you travel by Delhi to Leh by flight, acclimatize there, do local Ladakh sightseeing and then come back road on Manali Leh Highway so that you can enjoy the trip on Manali Leh road.

Srinagar Leh highway is still fine in October.. just the day of crossing Zojila Pass, please check the weather.. Mainly Manali Leh Highway is the problem in October

I did read this, is this going to happen ? As per the latest reports this exchange of vehicles at Sarchu is to discontinue from this season onwards. But any official notification or statement from Leh-Ladakh or Himachal Pradesh administration is still awaited

I always prefer going from Srinagar side, especially when kids and seniors are there in the group, it makes much more sense to go from Srinagar side and come back from Manali side.

Hello Renuka, I am happy you liked the information in my video. Leh is usually in double digits in May like 10-15 degree in day time but evenings/nights can go in single digits. Pangong Lake can be somewhere between 0-10 degree and lot colder. Sometimes difficult to spend night in cold in May, so people prefer staying at Tangtse which is about 34 km before Pangong Lake. Route wise you are OK in May, I will suggest if you can delay it by a week or two, then it will be much higher chance of roads being open and stable, expecially Manali Leh highway by the time you plan to return via it.

Well this year there isn’t much snowfall yet.. road was even closed as of last week just closed a day or two back with fresh snowfall .. Usually I do not recommend traveling by road until mid of May from Srinagar side and June first week from Manali side.. this year can be different.. stay tuned to my Monthly updates videos starting season
