Hi - We plan to visit leh via flight in the first week of May. We plan to visit Leh - Shanti Stupa - Leh Palace - Magnetic Hill - Pathar Sahib Gurudwara - Hall of fame - Sangam Point - Disket - Hundar - Shayok - Durbuk - Pangong Tso - Chushul - Rezang La war memorial - Tsaga village - Loma bridge - Hanle - Nyoma - Chumathang - Leh What can we expect? Are there chances of rough weather conditions or landslides blocking our journey? Are the markets and all tourist spots open during this period?
@discoverwithdheeraj Жыл бұрын
Hi Medha.. well in May usually the weather is fine unless particularly day weather comes bad on your trip. Snowfall is not uncommon at passes but roads remain usually all open. Tourist season is beginning during those days and shops hotels start to open up in first week of May. Pangong Lake stay will be too cold so better stay at Tangtse.
@shashankpamidi547113 күн бұрын
Hello, thank you for the video Me and my friends (8 of us) are visiting in April 3rd week by flight We want to do the Hanle (with Umling La day trip) - Tso Moriri _ Terido Cho house route which you suggested. Will the roads be open by then? can you also share some good taxi contacts? Our plan for now is day 1,2- rest like you suggested, day 3- alchi, day 4- nubra, day 5- tagste, day 6- pangong, from day 7- hanle route if possible. total 9 day trip Thanks
@discoverwithdheeraj13 күн бұрын
Hi, well, Umling La may or may not be open during April third week. All dependent on your luck and amount of snowfall it gets, I have my doubts that you will find it open and easy but talk to local Hanle person and taking inputs of your local driver before making any such adventure from Hanle to Umling La. April is still cold, winter in Ladakh, so go well prepared. Lakes will mostly be partially frozen if not fully frozen. Your plan, I will suggest following: Day 1, 2 Rest Day 3 Sham Valley tour including Alchi Day 4 Leh to Nubra Valley (Diskit, Hunder) Day 5 Diskit, Hunder to Tangtse via Shyok route (Can visit Pangong in afternoon after reaching Tangtse and come back - Optional) Day 6 Drive from Tangtse to Pangong, spend some time, continue to Hanle for night stay. Leave early from Tangtse like 7-7.30 AM. It will be pretty cold, so go prepared. Day 7 Umling La trip, if locals of Hanle say it is safe, driver feels it is safe, you feel it is safe and weather is clear. DONT take unnecessary risk Alternatively, if not doing Umling La, then Hanle to Terido Village drive Day 8 Hanle to Leh OR Terido to Teriphu to Terido to Leh Day 9 Back home Ladakh Taxi Drivers Contacts: discoverwithdheeraj.com/list-of-taxi-drivers-for-ladakh-srinagar-leh-manali/

So when Can i plan earliest for safe trip from Srinagar to ladhak, .. (I want to explore snow and snow cut highway too ) (PS: will be travelling with family, so safety would be priority too ). Thanks
@discoverwithdheeraj24 күн бұрын
You need to keep the plan flexible for snowcut highway kind of experience. Since safety is priority then snowcut highway road conditions should not be your priority and you should plan the trip with safety in mind only when road conditions satbilize. Check my monthly updates playlist and check videos from April, May, June.. you will understand the hardships and uncertainities of the region during that time.

First of all, I love your blog and videos, you give very useful tips and very well explained. Me and my husband, we were planning a trip from Manali to Leh by car, we have to return back to our country the 2rd August. On July 18 we would arrive in Dharamasala, visit for 1 or 2 days and then take an overnight bus to Manali. From there, our plan was to rent a car without a driver, to go to Leh, stopping in different villages and enjoying the route (we do not drive motorcycles). However, as you indicate, this is not possible, but we would have to take a car with driver. My question was: first, if these dates would be suitable to go by car, or would there be much chance that because of the rains we could not pass by the road? in that case, would you recommend any other option? On the other hand, I wanted to ask if it is possible to go without a driver, and where we could rent that car? in case it is not possible, how could we organize the trip so that our driver could stop in different places? Thank you very much, we are looking forward to the trip.
@discoverwithdheeraj8 ай бұрын
thank you for liking my content. Well, as you are aware that you will have to rent a local taxi with driver who will drop you to Leh and then in Leh you need to again rent a local Leh taxi for further sightseeing in Ladakh. The dates you have chosen are around monsoon time and rains are very unpredicatble up there during that time. You will have to reach Leh before the rains hit the region and that is all weather dependented. Once in Ladakh, rains do not affect that much unless there is exception. Usually the problem begins end of July and August is a big NO usually from my side for road travel in the Himalayas. Self-drive rentals cars for Ladakh are much more headache than convenience due to taxi union rules. Better rent taxi only as suggested above and well the driver will stop anywhere you want because that will be your private taxi. Most of the drivers are very nice unless you go through some big travel companies who pay them for Point 1 to Point 2 only. So, better hire a local driver who acts as a guide and help you explore to fullest. It will be your taxi and you can ask them to stop anywhere and any number of times. You can even clear that up before booking. You can always get in touch with Leh based tour provider Ken +91 84510 57819, +91 866-9121640. Instagram: @unpluggedlife , Email: unpluggedlife.in@gmail.com If needed, you can refer my name to him and he shall do his best to offer best experience. For taxi in Ladakh, Chamba - 09596979829 / 09906999808. A very, very nice and humble person from Ladakh. Knows me pretty well, more like another family friend in Ladakh. A bit of a shy personality, but he will do whatever is possibly best to make your journey successful. When you refer Dheeraj Sharma or my KZbin Channel being a reader/viewer of it, I am sure he will do his best possible effort in every way for rates and services.

Thanks to your videos am currently in Leh, following your suggested acclimatization methods. Plz advise if Pangong to Manali would be doable in a day, if we leave by 7am? Thanks again!
@discoverwithdheeraj5 ай бұрын
Bhai it is going to be very very very long journey is you decide to do it... Pangong to Sarchu with bad roads of Manali Leh you may be able to do it but do it only if you felt better sleeping at Pangong, otherwise AMS can cause problem sleeping overnight at Sarchu too in case you did not sleep well in Pangong too.

First of all, I love your blog, you give very useful tips and very well explained. Me and my husband, we were planning a trip from Manali to Leh by car. We have to return back to our country the 2nd August. On the other hand, I wanted to ask if it is possible to go without a driver, and where we could rent that car? in case it is not possible, how could we organize the trip so that our driver could stop in different places. Thank you very much, we are looking forward to the trip.
@discoverwithdheeraj8 ай бұрын
thank you for liking my content.

Hi sir first of all i love your videos It's very informative and interesting . I am from Bangalore and I am planning to visit leh this month, the places i have on my list are Leh town, Nubra valley, Tso moriri and puga. Is it possible to do this many places in 7 days. And i want to rent a bike to go to Nubra valley. I have watched your videos and have a rough idea about it but wanted your personal opinion on this.

Vismay, thank you so much. I just published the April 2023 update video, I will suggest you check it. Roads within Ladakh are open to visit above places but it will be cold especially for a bike ride unless you have already done such cold climate rides.

Regarding April first week traveling to Ladakh by road, you may be able to do it from Srinagar side only in case road is safe to travel. Sometimes that early the road is not that safe to travel to Ladakh.

Dheeraj Bhai, such good videos - it was a great help in planning our visit last month. Just had one question - we visited Pangong and found the lake beautiful. However, we did see a lot of people taking pictures on the 'tongues' on the lake and very close to the water. Just a general query - any idea how deep the lake is at these places close to the shores? If it's very deep, then it would be a dangerous proposition - without any lifeguard on the shores, and hospitals quite far off!! For your thoughts.
@discoverwithdheeraj Жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot.. near the shores the water isn’t that deep and shallow because some moron people have driven cars inside the lake too and the tires werent even submerged.. So, I am assuming from it that water isn’t that deep near the shore but lakes can be always misleading and instead of gradual depth there could be a sudden abyss too…

June (good) to September (best) barring months of monsoon. Early April you see Apricot Blossom in Sham Valley, cold conditions meaning much more snow at passes, less tourists.

Hello. I am planning for a bike ride in Zanskar valley & Hanle-Umling-la this year. My question is do we need any Permit to travel to these destinations and if yes, what is the process of getting it?
@discoverwithdheeraj Жыл бұрын
Since 2021 end of season, Indian do not need any permit anymore in Ladakh for regular sightseeing. You just need to pay the Ladakh Environment Fee on the website and carry the receipt of it. Here is the link where you need to pay it: www.lahdclehpermit.in/register-as-domestic Current Ladakh environment fees are broken down as following: 1. Environment Fee = Rs 400 one time 2. Wildlife Fee/Something = Rs 20 per day 3. Red Cross Fee = Rs 50 one time but Optional, you don’t need to pay if you don’t want to. DO NOT confuse environment fee receipt with permit. You just need to carry this fee receipt, hard copy or soft copy. This receipt will be checked at various checkposts. Hence, people are confusing it with permit but this is just verification that you have paid the fees.
