Dowding is remembered in his home town of Moffat. With a memorial in Station Park. The local RAF residential home bears his name. His life is recalled in an exhibition in the town museum. Spitfire fly pasts have often been part of this remembrance. As a child I absorbed a very human and positive understanding of Dowding, this strengthened by a local inhabitant of this time being one of the Polish airmen who flew RAF fighters during Dowding's active command in the Battle of Britain.

Dr Taylor was really great, clearly knows her stuff. Professor Clarke is like the grandad we all want to just waffle away the evening with :)

She is clearly brilliant. Could listen to her talking about her expertise all day long. Great stuff. Should have her own documentary show.

Dowding and Park were the right commanders at the right time. Dowding for his meticulous strategy development and Park for his leadership. This was Germany’s first major defeat.

Shame they also had to deal with Mallory

The saddest thing is the powers that be blocked Dowding being made a Marshall of the Royal Air Force something Trenchard involved himself in.

Any chance you could do General Sir Richard O'Connor? He's one of the most underrated British commanders.

This is great, but it is an enormous injustice to not make this about both Dowding and Air Chief Marshal Sir Keith Park, commander of No. 11 Group. Dowding would have told you that himself.

Between Dowding and Park, the nazis were proven as not being invincible.

"DIVIDED" as in a cake - each Fighter Group has it's own area within mainland Britain - which is DIVIDED GEOGRAPHICALLY into 13 Group to the North & 12, 11, 10 Group further South.

Dowding was a firm believer in the supernatural and that he could see aircrew who’d been killed.

Glad to see Michael Clarke back on something where he is actually useful. Instead of Sly News talking utter nonsense about meat wave attacks and shovels...
