Paul O'Dette is without question a master of the lute. He has done for the instrument a part of what Andres Segovia has done for the Spanish guitar. His recording of John Dowland's galliards is a superb work.

3:30p + /10.13.2024 Beautiful and thank you to Paul, Pegasus, NYC Early Music and any and all other early music artists that keep this music going through the centuries! You are loved! I’m more isolated and too poor to attend concerts, but I 1:19:59 am so grateful for You Tube as well! ❤

The new golden age of the lute presented by one of it's champions. Ginned up by a few years of partimento study, I got my first lute yesterday. If you play guitar at all you will go nuts, as the machine is light as a feather, round like a baby, and full of rich sounds that our microphones and speakers cannot yet transmit. Easier to play at a basic level than one would think :) Thank you for this inspiring concert!!

The Elizabethan English tuning is a damned sight more logical than the guitar too.

How beautiful, Paul! Thank you for bringing this music across the centuries to us as fresh as when it was first played. We were in German IV class together, which we had in the hall, at Whetstone H.S. and you spent time in the instrumental music dept. too, where I played clarinet. Love you're telling us about the lutenists and their times. 😊

It sounds like somebody is doing carpentry at the same time. Are those fingering sounds, or the chair creaking, or compression pumping background noise and hum?
