Aaron: your voice, pace, and overall laid-back demeanor is perfection for teaching! I’m learning SO much from all your videos. Before I was using the orbit tool like crazy to “command” how lines would run. Now with inferencing, it’s way easier to draw. Thank you!!!

That's amazing! This is why it's so much harder for me to learn AutoCAD, solid works and fusion360. SketchUp is so easy to use I keep going back to it when I try to figure out some geometry. The only downside I have experienced is the segmented circle and arcs of SketchUp. Thank you for sharing.

Thumbs Up. I've always used the SHIFT key for this, but I feel compelled to try the down arrow for a while as that I habitually make use of the other three arrow keys every time I use SketchUp. :)
@aarondietzen29956 жыл бұрын
Sheppard The nice thing is that the Down arrow will “lock”. No need to hold a key down (thus losing a hand... or at least a finger).

Thanks for clear video on slightly challenging topic. Question: Is there a way to reset the choice of inference line/surface - after hovered / down arrowed? (I must change to another tool, then reactivate for that).

Tapping the down arrow a second time will release the locked inference!

I'd like to put a coil of rope or cable onto a cylinder with an end hanging straight down and be able to rotate the cylinder and have the rope move up or down into more or less coiled rope accumulated on the cylinder and put a dynamic control to allow the viewer to lift or drop the end of the rope. It is not as easy as it sounds.

Cool thanks. Can the down arrow function be mapped to a different key?
@aarondietzen29956 жыл бұрын
Mark Johnson Nope! It is one of the few “protected” keys
@markjohnson90626 жыл бұрын
Ok...this is kind of a weird coincidence, but a link to your Skill Builder vid on the 3D mouse showed up after I viewed this, and in that video you said you mapped your arrow keys to the keys on your 3D mouse?... so is that an exception to what you're saying here?
@aarondietzen29956 жыл бұрын
No, that’s the other way around. I mapped the keys on my 3D mouse to mimic the arrow keys on my keyboard. The Spacemouse has keys that simulate the keystrokes of your keyboard.

Aaron Another excellent tip & video. May I offer a Skill Builder suggestion; Export to DWG. Although this may not be a true Skill Builder, and push against the SU paradigm, I see a real need for it. If I may elaborate. While I use SU every chance I get, I still must line the a DWG world. My clients, contractor/vendors and design professionals expect DWGs of my plans. I do not necessarily like it, but that is the way that it is. I have tried every solution, I can find, to export my SU models to DWG(DXF). No dice. The best solution to date is SU's native 3D export. However, that creates a 3D DWG file. Not usefull; I might as well model the project in the CAD program. Further, I cannot see valid reasons to port everything to Layout, then back out to DWG. I have read in the SU Blogs that others are experiencing the same issue. Sure would be great to find a solution. Thanks Again! (btw, that happen to be a BE model you used in the video?)
