Retired airline captain here....FAA's slavish obsession with DEI hiring is a big problem for the agency. On top of that, FAA suffers from the same malady that plagues the entire deep state Federal bureaucracy, namely careerism and total lack of accountability. The NTSB is worse! Charged with investigating mishaps they do sloppy cursory investigations and take two years on average to come up with a probable cause and recommendations for preventing similar mishaps. They only do so in a tiny percentage of the cases they investigate. It's a disgrace. They have a DEI-hired director who knows nothing about aviation. Housecleaning at NTSB and FAA are in order!

this guys misleading. the FAA "supervision" at the factories and assembly plants are Boeing employees (who qualified for FAA inspector certification). these "inspectors are paid by Boeing not the FAA. also, there is a revolving door between the actual govt. regulators and the C-suit (much like in the finance sector). the truth is, Boeing made a culture and strategic change that re-centered its core values, from running the best aircraft company (product, employment, etc), to making the stock price go up. this pivot is obvious and has been for at least 2 decades.

Some of their oldest planes are still flying, built when everything they did was concentrated in Seattle. And now? They now assemble planes on both coasts, and their headquarters is no where near their manufacturing facilities. They need to buy back spirit aero or bring it to Seattle. They should not have trashed the McDonnell Douglas facility cause they could still be making planes there. They need to stop taking notes out of General Motors playbook and hire a CEO on performance based pay only. Stock holders and bean counters need to STFU and let them run the company. All employees should have the right to stop assembly when they see something wrong, they should be rewarded for pointing out a flaw not punished. I could go on. But seriously have you ever heard anyone say they loved their 737 flight? It’s a miserable plane to fly on and always has been. They only make 3 different planes now!!!! So the company that cut costs anywhere it could to please the shareholders and get good quarterly reports, spent 90% of its profits on stock buyback in the past 10 years and has focused on anything except sustainable production rate and quality control, and people at Fox and here on KZbin look at it and say, oh it must be DEI. Boeing's only competitor, European Airbus manufacturer, focuses on safety and inclusivity of its employees as much, or more than Boeing, and they are going through their golden years with control of more than 60% of the market and are poised to take up to 70% in a few years. (And it makes sense why, because as anyone who works in the industry will tell you, in aircraft production more that anywhere else, where 1 loose bolt could mean disaster, you need employees feeling safe and respected to feel they can report potential issues without repercussions). And I love how the same people who made sure that FAA in underfunded and understaffed, are now surprised that that same agency doesn't have the funds or personnel to check on Boeing and had to rely on Boeing own employees to self check its own work. But sure, lets just blame it on whatever the current culture war issue we can, and ignore the actual underlying problems.
