I'm Jewish Israeli, and I also work in tourism so I've been many times with Christian groups to the river Jordan. Many people come there to be baptized in the same river where Jesus was baptized according to tradition. I still think that this song is probably the best musical representation of the faith of people in redemption. It is also connected to the fact that in the film, Delmar truly tries to act righteously after being baptized. I;m of a different creed but having seen people go through this in reality and listening to the beautiful hymn always gives me a warm feeling watching this scene.

Church is one of the least anxiety-inducing places I can be- especially the church my family went to when I was little, which is smaller. My sister still goes there. Probably 100 people, max, in that church, and never all at once. There's a certain peace in being somewhere where so many people knew you before you were born. They're like family, but the kind that are always loving and happy to see you. I pray God meets you wherever you are, and that you find a place that helps ease your soul.

Although they may have wanted to make fun of religion in this movie, the beauty and joy of the truth shines through. I was water baptized in the name of Jesus for the remission of sins in 1981 and I felt the amazing power of that cleansing from sin. I received the baptism of the Holy Ghost four weeks later and was filled with joy unspeakable and love, power, and freedom from fear. It’s real! And I spoke in tongues just like the Bible says. That was my full salvation and the down payment of eternal life.

In 1976 , at the age of thirty-four, I was reading the KJV Bible and fell under strong conviction of Jesus words and teaching and was born again in the Missouri Ozarks hills. I went to the local country church and stood up and said that I wanted to be baptized. I had been witnessing to my lovely wife of ten years. She accompanied me to the creek, along with members of the church and Robert Grisham the preacher. As I waded into the water, two older ladies said to Judy, "Go and join your husband." She came in and we were baptized together. We were Christians together in all of the ups and downs of our life together until she died of strokes in 2015. We will be rejoined with Jesus when my time comes and worship him together in the Kingdom of God in Heaven. We were both Holy Ghost baptised and received the power to be evangelists for Christ. I am 80 years old now and my time is drawing nigh, Thank you Jesus, Glory to God. Sincerely, Richard Sleep

I honestly don’t think they were making fun of God at all, I’ve watched this movie at least 20 times and I feel like the “religious” parts were honest and truthful.

@@007Julie oh I think it’s great. I suppose I was thinking of what’s his name’s dismissive attitude about religion, and his reliance on rational thought. Maybe the movie is a nice blend of ideas and beliefs.

You can only put your faith in God in the end. Things of this world are only temporary and can be taken away and bad things can happen. There is nothing like hard economic times to show people that they have to rely on God more than anything of this earth. God will wash away all our sins.

The genius of the Coen Brothers ability to create dialogue is almost frightening. In my opinion they are on par with the world greats.
