We splurged on the Down N Dirty Chevelle and bought a Dakota Digital dash. Steve installs a new gauge cluster and wires up the Dakota Digital dash.

What I love about this video is, you don't assume we know everything. The little details will save us a lot of trial and error. Thanks for the great video.

Absolutely!!!!!! That is the whole reason I started this channel. I really want to show people you can easily do this. At home with basic tools. You can build something pretty nice!! I appreciate the comment and the support!!!! I’m new at this and learning how to “KZbin” as I go!! Lol.

Great video for those doing that kind of upgrade on a 64 Chevelle. I keep seeing all these videos on 64 Chevelles and it sure makes me wish I had held on to mine after spending the time, energy and money on it. Bought a used 64 Chevelle 2 door hardtop in early 1970 with a 6 cyl stick. A number of months later, the Chevelle was sporting a slightly modified 68 302 Z28 motor, Pontiac Muncie 4 speed and a 66 GTO posi rear with 3.90 gears. Originally silver, Chevelle was painted 68 Caddy Nottingham (Emerald) green [green and silver interior]. Great street machine for 10 years and then I sold it. BIG mistake !

You sold it!?!?!? 🥺 that thing sounds awesome!! I do love 64 chevelles!! I’m lucky enough to have two at the moment! The green one in my videos was my best friends in high school. I bought it from him and I still have it! Then there is this one we call Down n Dirty! I’ve done lots of videos on it. Took it all the way down to the frame and back! Thanks for watching and commenting!!

Just an FYI my friend - the housing on the gauges side is made of aluminum( where mounting screws attach). I found out because I had to file the mounting holes a little and noticed metal shavings. Keep the videos coming!

Could you use two K4 adapter connector rings (One under each screw) and then run a female crimp on spade on one side and a crimp on female with male piggy back spade on the other, then a female spade from the male piggyback to ground? Asking for a friend.
@tackettshoh
@tackettshoh 9 ай бұрын
Ya that would work fine. The key is adding a better ground than the original (tab touching the corner of the dash) and tying the two metal plates together. Especially with the Dakota digital being plastic. The two metal plates were no longer connected.

When I started out, I didn't know how to solder. Now it's all I do. Can't wait to see it lit up.

I’m installing the same gauges(RTX) on my 65. We texted on a different video. My gauges don’t really touch the bezel, they are about 1/16 to 1/32” away from touching. I filed down around the blinkers but still doesn’t sit 100% flat. Is this normal? I tried the original stock gauges and same thing. Nice fit but I still have a little gap.
@tackettshoh
@tackettshoh 7 ай бұрын
I think a little gap is normal. I did cut down a couple nubs on the bezel. That got it sitting flush. I think the problem was the aftermarket bezel.
@alcc4964
@alcc4964 7 ай бұрын
@@tackettshoh this is my second bezel. (First one from Jegs, second from OPGI) OPGI much better plus the AC vent was the proper size. I think I’ll keep filing a but more. Did you file anywhere else besides the blinker nubs? Thanks again.
@tackettshoh
@tackettshoh 7 ай бұрын
@@alcc4964 I just went and looked at mine. There is no gap looking at it from the front it’s all the way flat to the bezel. On mine the only place I had to file down was the turn signal spots. 🤔 Oooh I also didn’t put the little green glass pieces in. You don’t need them. The turn signal lights are already green. Take them out. (If you put those in)
