ill never understand people put an aftermarket steering when theres nothing wrong with the original one that it came with. i had a car that had a woods steering wheel the horn never would work so i took it off and threw it in the woods i hate a woids steering wheel !!!

HooRay, it's getting there. Might consider a motorcycle jack for your transmission install. Nice big surface for the pan and pumps up from under the car. Harbor Freight has them cheap. Also, not sure why you didn't use a filter extension with that deep pan. Anyway..... won't be long now.

The level of the fluid didn’t change. Only the depth.

@@tackettshoh I know, it's like putting a deep sump oil pan on your engine and using the stock pick up screen. People just don't generally do that. The oil is slightly cooler down low, less aerated, more stable etc.. If you have more oil but just keep taking it off the top, the deeper pan really serves no purpose. You want to pick up the oil down low where it is more stable and you use all the oil not just the top surface. Also , now have more room for the oil to slosh to the back of the pan and could result in oil starvation on launch. YMMV

I used ratchet straps from frame rail to frame rail on the front ahead of the pan and the tail housing to get it lifted up for my jack.

Great video I have to pull the turbo 400 out of my big block monte carlo the same way on the ground. It was a manual reverse valve body and I only had about 15 miles on it and shifted from 1 to 2nd at 6.500 rpm there was a big puff of smoke and now I have another neutral. Not so lol....but any way I think it destroyed the spray I just hope it didn't mess up the Trans case and it can be rebuilt. The car is really coming along nice. Have a great day and stay safe.

Edelbrock makes that fly eye air cleaner that flows pretty good that is about the lowest air cleaner you can get. Or if you have a little bit of hood clearance left they sell a drop base air cleaner based on the old Corvette air cleaner from way back when those still had carburetors. Are you going to make it to the duct tape thing? Sounds good.😎👍

I might bring the green Chevelle, okie, and Down n Dirty. Either way. We will be there the whole three days.

@@tackettshoh Yeah they are ugly but they filter pretty good while having decent flow so... Or alter the hood for more clearance then you can put a 4 hole 2 inch spacer under the carburetor for that extra 12 horsepower.🤔 But if you want to keep that sleeper look no one can see that ugly filter with the hood shut.😂😁😎👍

@@tackettshoh I had to use one on my '64 Skylark with a Vortec sbc in it with an Edelbrock RPM Airgap dual plane intake. Couldn't believe how little hood clearance I had. The fly eye made it work, the hood was one of the nicer body panels so I really didn't want to cut a hole in it. I got used to how the fly eye looked after a while because it worked so good. No real QM time difference with or without it either. And I think there was still over an inch of clearance from the top of it to the bottom of the hood.🤷 Hopefully the drop base works for you if not you still have the fly eye option.😎👍

Yeah market place is a gamble we all been there . Drilling out bolts sucks I like the fact you fix right the first time. Hope you get the transmission back in time

@@jerryferguson6606 I think I might have OCD or something. If I take the bumper off. I HAVE to fix all the bolts and hardware or it will eat at me and eat at me. Till I fix it right! I sure hope I get it back. Maybe I can still get the car to the track for Duct Tape Drags…. 🤞

Yep, get it checked out before you fill your converter with trash. If the case is good you did alright. This way it will be built the way you want it.

@@johnp1966 ya. I heard from the tranny guy yesterday. The case is good. The valve body is good. The trans brake is good. It was the sprag and front main drum. Shattered. It was a stock sprag and drum. Someone put a trans brake on the thing with stock parts!! Probably dropped the trans brake hard and it shattered. So he’s going to fix it with a new drum and hardened sprag. So it should be good. Parts are already ordered. Hopefully get it back next week. Fingers crossed.

Out of that whole video, I could only think of one thing to say. Somewhere out there is a pile of bolt heads that were snapped off when that car was rear ended. Other than that, I had a great time watching you just put things on all over that car. I'm not going to talk about the trans. Getting exciting!

@@ronr344 ya. I figured worst case scenario. I broke even. I needed a core anyway and the valve body and solenoid would be a bonus. I’m more worried about time. I really want to see the car make a pass at Duct Tape Drags…🤷‍♂️

How about you be your new, new transmission guy and rebuild it yourself. Buy a transmission manual, a rebuild kit and use this as a learning experience so you don't have to pay anymore transmission guys.🤷🤔 Shop 209 did a really good th350 rebuild video with good camera work so you can see what he's doing. After you do 1 or 2 transmission rebuilds you'll wonder why you didn't learn how to work on them sooner. Maybe the next MP core you find.😎👍

@@tackettshoh And if you do it on video, make sure to read the comments before you use it because there'll probably be a transmission guy watching to tell you what you may have forgot or did incorrectly? It wouldn't be me though because I regret to admit I never forced myself to learn how to rebuild a transmission. But after watching a few being gone through I'm sure I could of figured it out eventually. They actually look a lot easier than building an engine. Well a lot lighter parts to install anyway and all around lighter. The world is running out of good transmission guys, maybe you can get a side business going after you get a few under your belt? Plus it gives you more content to post. Start rebuilding the rear ends yourself too so you have content to post. Those are about the only major things you farm out, might as well try to keep everything in Tackettstan with the economy the way it is. Plus it might help some other budget guys save a few bucks?😎👍

@@heshtesh these headers are pretty unique. I had a buddy in San Diego started a business. It was aluminum spraying. It looks like a paint gun but you put a stick of aluminum in the top. As you spray it. Aluminum comes out the gun. He wanted to try it on headers. So I gave him this set of headers. He sprayed it with that aluminum spray gun. That was back in 1998. They still look perfect. They feel kinda textured but they don’t rust or chip ever. I can’t believe they still look this good.

The process at Swain tech where i'm getting mine done features ceramic that is sprayed on in molten form that basically welds itself to the steel and like yours has a rough sandpaper like surface to it, it's rated for 3000 degrees, did the exhaust on my snowmobile in 2012 and it still looks excellent. I'm surprised your friend hasn't pushed this more to the forefront as it looks extremely good and obviously durable.

I just built a 500+HP 357 and it's running a 850 DP Holley. No holes were needed. Did crack the secondaries open a touch. Engine has a pretty big roller cam in it too. Runs like it should.

@@tackettshoh Sometimes it can just be a shitty carb to intake gasket. It's happened to me. Some are better than others. The gaskets that come with 2 inch spacers are crap. The ones in the QFT carb kits are real good.

@@tackettshoh Also main body to baseplate gasket can be a leak too. Make sure the baseplate gasket matches the main body and baseplate perfect. Devils in the details. Looks like a nice build tho, should run real good.

Id be looking for that vacuum leak. Ive seen baseplate to intake gaskets cause that, also could be a intake gasket.

Two carbs same problem......... I think maybe intake gaskets/vaccum leak.. As crazy as it sounds........but easy to do, it might be the spark plugs also. I had a 350 that was doing the same thing. New plugs and they were bad. Good hunting for the issue.

I'm not even going to pretend I know what the problem is. I'm just going to give it to the other subscribers that have way more hours troubleshooting Holley carb problems. At this rate, you should have the car just about finished in time. 🤞

Hi Steve, I have a 408 in my camino, had same issues, what I did I put a 50cc accelerator pump on with a 40 nozzle, that made a big difference, no more stubble off idle, way more power. And play with the timing somewhat, mine runs really good at 40 degrees, it idles at 650 rpm. Good luck. Watch all your vids.

My 260-267 @ 0.050” lift 106 overlap roller cams would never idle below about 1200rpm. I’m not sure what RPM you’re at right now.

Hi Steve, couple things you can check, if you hook up vaccum gauge to ported vaccum if needle stays on 0 then your transfer slot is set right. If it comes off of 0 than your transfer slot is open to much. Secondly power valve should be half of your manifold vacuum . If you got 8 inches of vaccum, throw a 4.5 in it. Play with the timing a bit. I got a 408 in my elcamino, had to lock out the distributor and run 41 degrees timing and it idles at 650 rpm. Hope you get it figured out. Watch all your vids.

Hey Tack, I've had the same carb issues. I opened the secondarys with the baseplate screw, that allowed the primarys to close. I opened up the idle air bleeds and that helped too. my idle mixture screws are a half to three quarters out. My primarys are closed and i adjust idle speed on the secondary baseplate screw. I wish i had all the answers to pass on. That hood wrinkle is just added patina, its all perspective. Lol

@@michaelmaher4328 thank you thank you!!!! I probably should get an air fuel gauge for this. Without the holes in the butterflies. I am not able to close the front butterflies enough to get off the main circuit. I’m hoping the other carb will solve this. But it needs work. Missing parts, kinda beat up. But it is a drop leg double pumper. I think I got at the swap meet for like $40 bucks. So it’s worth a try I think.
