Tbh I wouldn’t be so sure. This university is 5 minutes down the road from my house and the requirements to make the team are very high because it’s such a big school. I’m a cheerleader and I’ve been to many a GMU games, and all the cheerleaders there have at least level 4 tumbling and stunting ability. I’m not saying she doesn’t, but they showed only a prep (level 1) and extension (level 2) in this video with her in it. Typically at GMU you’d be seeing full ups (level 4, like the other flyer in the video) or even more difficult skills. Knowing GMU, it wouldn’t shock me to know that they just want to avoid a scandal. Even with my 7 years experience as a cheerleader I still am not good enough to make that team because I don’t have a standing back tuck.

Very nicely put and spot on. Could not believe the hateful spewing of "I don't fit in" in the comment section. Had to set her straight. I was erroneously diagnosed bipolar at nineteen drugged and the drugs disabled my brain and caused the diagnosis to appear accurate. My mother force fed me the pills insisting doctors never make mistakes. So lots of idiotic TRUE morons have treated me the same way they treat those they label "retards." bamfbabybamf I’m not sure. This school is 5 mins from my house and the standards to make the team are very high. Everyone has at least level 4 tumbling and stunts and I’m not saying she doesn’t I’m just saying she was only doing level 1 and 2 stunts in this video. It doesn’t help that the sister said her mom basically threw a fit about her being on the team. Knowing GMU, I wouldn’t be surprised if they took her to avoid a “discrimination” scandal. I’m all about inclusion, but I don’t believe in lowering the standards for anyone for any reason.

@@jillianm8958 I think it's awesome that she was given the opportunity to do something like this, even if she isn't able to do what everyone else is doing.
@jillianm89585 жыл бұрын
Chloe I think she, like everyone, should be given the opportunity to try out for the team if they want to. But I don’t think that the standards should be lowered for people. If she meets the same standards as the others on the team good for her! But I don’t believe in special treatment. If one person gets it then all people should. Also, if she is not up to the same level as the other cheerleaders, it brings them down. They have to take 3 bases to put under her to do skills less than what they are capable of. As a cheerleader, I know that stunting with a person who is far below your skill level is extremely frustrating because the stunt group is limited to the skills of the lowest skilled person. That gets really boring when you can not push yourself or ever try more difficult stunts because of one person. I think it’s great for HER, but it’s not great for the TEAM. And since cheer is a team sport, what’s best for the team trumps what’s best for the individual. That’s why there’s a try out, to make sure all the people on the team will be with people of their own highest skill level which will ultimately advance the team in the sport. If there’s a team, they are only as strong as the weakest link and trying to work around limitations of a single team member is nightmarish for the coaches and the other athletes. It leaves everyone feeling exasperated, unchallenged and unsatisfied with the performance. Like I said, if she meets the standards then she absolutely deserves the spot. But if she doesn’t have the skills, giving her a spot means you are taking away a spot from a deserving person the skills - and that isn’t fair.

"....and the hardest thing in her life isn't an extra chromosome it's the fact that able-bodied, able-minded people everyday believe that she's not capable of things, and she's extraordinary because she does it anyway" :') I love this so much- her sister, her family, her cheer family, the coach UHH the support is unbelievable. AnnCatherine is so inspirational, not (just) because she's "different" and "incapable" of doing such thing and proves everyone wrong, but because she's just out there. Sh'e knows that she has slightly different capabilites than others and overcomes them, but doesn't everyone? Sure she was born with them, but you're not going to just jump up out of your crib one day and start benching 100kg weights or speaking a foreign language fluently, are you? I hope she succeeds in college and wish her the best for all games and events she has yet to come

when i was in high school we had this wonderful student who has down syndrome, and she was just the best, I'm so happy that they let her join the VARSITY SQUAD! like she kicked butt! I absolutely love the sport of cheer because they are so accepting of everyone! female, male. no matter who you were you were cared about
