In this 2nd video on the Leibniz subsystem from Xaoc devices I have a closer look at Erfurt & Jena, as well as chaining modules in the system. Erfurt is a great stand-alone clock divider and pattern generator, but can do audio mangling and complex patterns within a larger setup. Jena is more dependant on other modules, and especially works well with Drezno. But it offers wave shaping, wavetables, complex pattern generation, CV and audio mangling, and a lot more.

Thank you so much. You have once again outdone yourself to provide us with a video of incredible quality. Your diagrams and, especially, your animations are of high quality, very clear and perfectly illustrate the operation of these modules. Your previous video and this one are by far the best description and explanation of the Leibniz system. This should be the official documentation. Xaoc should pay you for all that great work. Thanks!

Thanks for the kind words! That makes it worth it. I have to say I had to stretch myself a bit for these two, but also feels good to have this 2 part explanation out in the wild. Indeed I hope a lot of future Leibniz curious people will stumble over these! Also just in case that wasn't clear, Xaoc send the whole series over to me, and happy to work with them. But might check if they are interested in using these on their website :)

@@MonotrailTechTalk I'm glad that Xaoc recognizes the quality of your videos and that you didn't have to pay out of pocket for these modules. I really think they should highlight these videos on their site. I even think it would make the sale easier, because your videos show very well the full potential of these modules and the fact that they are not that complicated to understand.

Hey, glad you liked it! And indeed lot's of things to do. I wanted to mainly explain the core functionality, but my patches, especially the Jena patches are still pretty basic examples. Curious to hear what you like to do with them!?

@@MonotrailTechTalk I’ve only scratched the surface so far. Using the fundamental out of Odesa and into Jena and turn into a different wave table and then blended with the rest, has sounded quite nice. I’ve got two lispks with one permanently connected to Odesa flipping the partials in a subtle way creating distant melodies. So many more things to try when I have some time.

I've used ADC modules in VCV Rack to trigger the x and y triggers on a rene style sequencer. Fun way to get deterministic generative patterns. I'll use beat sync'd lfos, eg tides, as the input to the ADC, using S&H to keep things on time and meter. Kind of a "heavy" patch just to generate one line, maybe, but rack space in VCV is unlimited.

Great video! I have a question about using Erfurt -> Jena alone without Drezno or the other modules. If Erfurt is inputting the clock information, does Jena only produce gates, or do the outputs function as cv for control of other modules in my system. I know Bank E is designed for drum rhythms, but are the Jena outputs in other banks sending out waveforms or just gates?
@MonotrailTechTalk
@MonotrailTechTalk 10 ай бұрын
Thanks! Individual bit outputs (like the 8 outputs on Jena) are always only on-off gates. You can use those to modulate things of course, but in order to convert those back to waveforms you need Drezno.

Great service with the "Subsystem"! - I own the trinity of Drezno -> Lipsk -> Jena and asked myself, if I could insert Erfurt inbetween the chain (betwenn Lipsk and Jena), without totally losing the base-behaviour of Drezno->Jena. I mean, as a wavetable-oscillator, for example. As far as your video informed, I guess, I'd only directly change the effect of Lipsk, and if I don't connect a clock, the signal would pass "unharmed" to Jena to be scanned like it does without Erfurt?
@MonotrailTechTalk
@MonotrailTechTalk Жыл бұрын
Thank you! And indeed you should be able to place it in the chain without altering anything. So would just add more ways to disrupt signals passing through. Different chains offer different options though. I might just keep Drezno Jena, and Lipsk > Erfurt for a while to explore whats possible with each combination of two. Also allows for two completely different purposes.

@@MonotrailTechTalk I do plan on collecting any of the primary subsystem-modules (by that I mean Drezno, Lipsk, Jena, Gera, Erfurt and Poczdam) and would then set up a two source-routing with Erfurt and Drezno as the driver to be linked to Jena and back to Drezno (with a a Lipsk on each chain individually), but before buying a Poczdam alongside the Erfurt, I want to stay concious of my monthly budget without altering what I like best on what I now own. - With Poczdam later on, I figured, I can connect as I intend the Subsystem to work in my favourite scenarios.

Hi, when you are chaining lipsk - Erfurt - Dreszno - lipsk do you have the Erfurt Clock Jumper on the back set to INT or EXT…. It’s all so confusing ;-( ;-))

Depends on if you want to use the clock from Drezno, or Erfurts internal clock.

I am mostly interested in generating percussive patterns. I got a Drezno, but I am kind of disappointed by it for generating gate/trigger patterns. Do you think Jena partnered with another module would be a better option?
@MonotrailTechTalk
@MonotrailTechTalk Жыл бұрын
Have to say I really like Drezno, also for percussion. Send a looping envelope or LFO with a clock annd lots of pattern fun. I like the organic variations Drezno makes. But of course, other options as well. Jena and Erfurt are also a great pattern generating combo.

@@MonotrailTechTalk Thanks for the reply, do you have settings you recommend to get started? Like what is the rate of the LFO vs the clock rate? Shape of the waveform? The gain and offsets on the Drezno? There are so many variables here that I find many of us are struggling to get something useable from it. I guess this could be a video topic on its own.

It seems like there a far cheaper ways to achieve very similar results. It just seems like this is an academic exercise in doing clock and voltage divisions. It's cool. But seems a bit much to buy into.
