I've played golf competitively and I found I always performed better in tournaments than practice rounds. The higher the pressure, the lower the rounds. Senses were heightened, adrenaline was up, and that's normal... you just harness it to your advantage. Mind doesn't understand "don't"... whatever you focus on is what you get. You say don't hit it in the water, it's going in the water. Golfers have been using sports psychology and visualization for many years, but in the archery world people seem really new to these concepts. With that said, Joel has a talent for explaining things in a way that makes sense. I bought his course.

I have subscribed only a week ago and (switching from Trad to Compound only a few weeks ago), it helped me so much. Although I enjoy your podcasts a lot, I'd like to see Joel joining you more often, if possible. Btw. thanks for this great format, we do not have anything like that in the german spoken Archery community.

The next part of Joel's system I need is how to actually turn my focus off from aiming and "watching it like a picture". My execution takes too long (to be not an outright command) and my aim just falls apart after that ~5 second window. I start losing pressure on the draw shoulder, or I start having muscles attempt to go to natural aim/resting position without an actual focus on the target to pin relationship. I can't lock down how to keep focus on the target while also getting my brain to self correct the pin to the target without flipping focus back and forth.

That is the battle we all face my friend, haha. My biggest issue is being comfortable with my pin or dot having some movement and that it is covering the place I want to hit... My mind wants to see the spot I want to hit and I end up stuck in these low holds. What I try to do is tell myself I need to block out the middle for the shot to be ready to go... kind of reverse thinking. I am not trying to look at the middle, instead I am trying to block out the middle. Another trick you can use to see how steady your pin float is in your best case scenario is to draw your bow and aim, but don't shoot the arrow, and then let down. That will remove any tentativeness and anxiety of having to shoot... you can relax and just watch your pin float. I do it every few days, where I will just hold on target for 10-15 seconds letting my float just do its thing and get accustomed to seeing my pin blocking out the center... sometimes I let down, sometimes I decide to shoot. At the very least it shows you what kind of pin float you are working with. I'm at the point now where physically I can make almost every shot a decent one... but my mind cannot get out of its own way, lol... One bit of advice I can say that is not spoken about enough, is that you need to find your own shot. There are so many people in the archery world telling you how you need to shoot to be perfect... but none of us are perfect and having a cookie cutter style shot may not work for you. Look down the line at the pros shoot and you will see so many styles of shooting and forms. From command, to surprise, and everything in between. Its good to use the mainstream things everyone says as tools to help you, but if you find yourself reverting to something year after year... your body and mind may be telling you something. I tried to change my shot this winter to be more "cookie cutter" and adopt all the "proper" methods and my scores dumped, and after a while I started to revert to old things that felt "right" and my scores went right back up. Experiment with things and listen to what people have to say, but at the end of the day, you need to make the shot, not them. Good luck man.

I'd love to get Josh's opinions on everything that is vanes. I've been testing in super windy conditions here in NC amd somehow the sk3 is quiter and groups the same in wind. I would expect the sk3 to be effected more by wind. I was seeing the sk3 amd the Dca minis group the same in wind out to 60 yards. With exception to the height since the sk3 is a little heavier

After seeing countless archers of all styles hold low, snap shoot, punch, flinch, not get to anchor etc etc wouldn't they have all figured it out by now? They've shot for years some decades. Is Joel's method perfect or the most effective? I don't know I haven't bought it but it's not just a simple go shoot your bow or no one would have any prolonged TP.
