Yes we have rice variety in Maharashtra that is आंबेमोहोर.it is very delicious to eat with varan. Tup (घी)and few lemon drops.dal should Cook with pinch of haldi,pinch of hing powder and salt to taste and very little like pinch of sugar or jaggery. Love it. great talk with pushpen ji.

What I know so far, "bhat" is used in east, north-east, Maharashtra, gujrat, some parts of southern India and even in Himalayan region of northern India.

Rice is called staple because the consumption of rice in India is much more than any other cereal grain,so it's well justified. My opinion though

LOL the Core North which is Punjab haryana Delhi UP-West, Kashmir etc Rice isnt Staple. But In east and More so in South Rice is staple crop
