World At War, is a masterpiece and one of my favourite games of all time. The ending made me shed some tears. When Dimitri plants the flag and that theme starts it sends chills down my spine. It’s supposed to make you feel hopeful but it’s bittersweet. You have to remember 60,000,000 men lost their lives, Hiroshima and Nagasaki were destroyed and 6 Million Jews were tortured and murdered by the nazi’s The Holocaust and WW2 were truly one of, if not the darkest moments in human history

Also, Jonesy sidenote, I have a proposal/advice for you. Waw introduced us to Treyarch zombies, a game within a game with its own story. Chernov's death is a sudden and shocking one. Reznov's turn on how he felt about him writing, is usually how people deal with grief in the moment. and Dimitri, the man who planted the flag atop the reichstag. The last two missions of this campaign, are my favourite of the entire COD genre. So much is said, with few words. You see and feel it all through the actions, reactions, in the heat of the moment. I absolutely love your reactions and your aim has gotten much better since MW3. Remember, it's always the uniforms that tell people apart! also, using a controller is pretty hard. can't wait for black ops! Reznov might be a tough love kind of guy, but he is an awesome character. his design, his motives, his passion.

Shuri Castle and Downfall are 2 of my favourite missions in all of Cod history. I still get the chills in those final scenes where Dimitri plants the flag and then we get a very real speech from General McArthur a true war hero. What he is saying is the truth and it echoes to this day as we are on the bring of WW3! War is awful, it should not be glorified and peace and understanding should govern Mankind not hatred. THIS is why WAW has the best campaign in the cod franchise. You don't have to be political to understand or appreciate history. Oh and the dome as well as that column are new, they were indeed destroyed at that battle. And the planting of the flag was done by two Russian soldiers in real life.

The guy who died in the last US mission was Roebuck. You certainly got the more emotional ending. In that split second of free will you get in that scripted little scene, you can choose whether to save him or Polonsky. Don't worry, that IS Gary Oldman. It's hard not to recognize a voice like that. And oh yeah, Downfall is an amazing film. Many criticise it and claim that it humanizes Hitler, but I disagree. I think it simply shows that he was flesh and bone just like most humans. I certainly don't think it hid any of his evil traits. This was a very fun playthrough! Thank you for sharing it all with us.

50:25 that line of dialogue that Chernov actually changes depending on the choices you made in the Soviet campaign Jonesy. You got the mixed one due to signs you showed Mercy and Brutality. There was three choices in the campaign. One at the end of “Vendetta”, the other at the beginning of “Their Land, their blood”, and the final one at the subway entrance in “Eviction”. The brutality one was at the beginning of the Land mission where you showed brutality to the bleeding Germans in that house. 😊❤️

some fun not so fun facts at the later misions you can see the evolution of the war with the enemies uniforms with how you progress into their heartlands where as in downfall the german army went from the wehrmacht when outside to being the final 500 SS and wounded and their face models are the young and the SS officers which reflected how it essentially was IRL along with Shuri castle being like that. also when Roebuck and Polonsky are being held up you can choose to save either and your actions of compassions or warcrimes also reflect how chernov writes about you in his diary with it being what he sees as moraly good, needed and evil. it is never outright stated that these can happen so it makes it more replayable back in the day. side note this emotional ability that the game has is by far one of the main reasons its my fave cod especially with its point of "look how bad war is and dont redo this" is one of the reasons I want this cod remastered for new generations because for me its the most hard hitting campaign mode that isnt a story with heroes and villains but a sorta recount of what it was like during an era in gaming that was basically unheard of bar Medal of honour and Brothers in Arms:Road to Hill 30 back on the PS2. Im happy to see you enjoyed the game just a mild heads up imo it does not get as tense in how heavy it feels as im sure this is the darkest and grittiest cod made and also less grenades to worry about. I will be looking forward to seeing you play the other CoDs.

Fun fact at Shuri castle you can actually chose who to save from the Japanese soldiers who falsely surrendered. Polonsky Or the squad leader Roebuck. I chose Roebuck because it feels we knew him more and it's Kiefer sutherland xd

My favourite cod game and ww2 based game ever not just because of the fun and engaging gameplay but because its a game that strives to be as close to the source material at hand it handles such a delicate subject with the respect it deserves the finale of the game is just the high and then the feels It is not as much glorifying violence or conflict but showing the grey shades on both sides no other modern game would come close to this in terms of potraying the brutality of conflict and how it changes people

It's interesting to see how experience shapes interest in life, for example an experienced player would love using the flamethrower over a conventional weapon, but to a new player despite the weapon being so powerful, it's weight, limited eyesight, "small" ammo count before needing to refuel, and most impactfully the short range making you have to charge the enemy instead of being able to stay back and pick targets off. so the flamethrower seems more like an obstacle than a tool. It's also interesting to see how easy it is to learn "the wrong lessons" like in the black cat mission where it's a mix of both. An experienced player will save as many sailors as possible, seeing it as a goal to achieve. While a new player might accidentally teach themselves the wrong lesson of "Saving the sailor got me killed, so I won't try to save them." making the goal, again an obstacle. As gamers we often don't understand the privilege we have learning games so young; we take advantage of the fact it's completely second nature to us. the controller or keyboard is an extension of us, not what we use to play a game. to us a question like "who am I supposed to be shooting" is silly, and we might make fun of someone who asks that, but to a new player who doesn't have that instinct of, green means good red means bad, there's no indicator to make it obvious that what their looking at is an enemy. Also skills like reaction time, all experienced gamers most likely noticed when it said "Hold F for ammo" but someone new to games hasn't learned that skillset of noticing quick flashes of text or quickly said dialogue, or being able to shoot an enemy within a second of them popping out. I don't mean this rudely but their brains haven't "sped up" to keep up with fast paced video games, combo that with seeing games as something alien, so they don't know every control, and the sheer stress caused by the state of confusion with bullets flying all around you where you or your digital comrades can die any second. It's very easy for the brain to get overwhelmed and feel completely out of gas from the stimulation. making it very difficult to retain information, but this also has one of two other effects, either burning someone from playing that genre of games, or laughing at the end because it was as enjoyable, as it was terrifying.

25:10 ROEBUCK, NOOO!!!! 😭😭 That happened to me on my first playthrough; was so sad & mad. But that's something that the Japanese did during the war; they'd feign surrenders just to suicide kill a couple Americans, which led to the Marines taking few prisoners. I don’t think I’ve seen you stab so many people in one game! 😳 Never challenge Jonesy to a knife fight. On another note: Though connected, there is a tone shift between World At War and Black Ops. Where in World At War felt like an all out world war, Black Ops is more of a covert spy thriller. There is tense battles, but not back-to-back grueling “They’re Coming Outta Trees” battles, such as in World At War.
