Downforce Top Ten - Karting World Champions

I raced against Terry Fullerton once in 1979 at the North American Karting Championships at Goodwood Ontario. Tony Zoserl was also there. They were in a whole other league compared to the rest of the field. Zoserl was fast but Fullerton was an absolute magician with the kart. I've neve seen anything like it before or since.

This video was more meant to showcase racers who have become world renowned having started in karting. Sadly Mike Wilson is known to everyone in karting and will almost certainly be in the top 3 of the next video, but armchair race fans will have heard of the likes of Trulli, Magnussen and Patrese, but because of the way media in motorsport works, probably not Mike Wilson. But don't worry, we do intend to help change that.

Bullshit top 10 ... Barnsley Born Mike Wilson, schoolboy Kart Champion went off to live in Italy at 16 - alone - to race for top kart manufacturer IAME. As a result he took Six World Championships between 1981 and 1989 and the priceless “award” received through Ayrton Senna's words: “There's just one driver I never managed to beat, Mike Wilson”. Schumacher wasn't in the same league either ... but ... Mike met a local girl and the inevitable resulted thus activating a proper 'shotgun wedding'. Tested in F3, 2 secs faster than the regular Driver. He was offered the full financial package to come nack to the UK and climb the Formulas to F1. But his parents told me that every time he visited with his wife and baby her mother would be on the phone within 24 hrs crying you ''taka ma bambino awwwaya, I commita da suicide if you don't comma backa immediately' ... So they did. He could have ended up driving for Ferrari and been a GOD in Italy.

So true, spot on what I have just read. I went to Italy with Mike's parents and sister. Parma, 1981 worlds Mike's first win what a race that was. He beat senna and Fullerton and many more. Legend. 🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆👍

Ayrton Senna never actually said that...and the reason that he never said it was because Senna did beat Mike Wilson....on many occasions.... when the top direct drive class in the World was 100cc....in 1981 when IAME and CEO Bruno Grana effectively "hijacked" the Karting World Championship and made it 135cc instead of 100cc....IAME was the only manufacturer in the World who had a competitive engine, as they had been making a 135cc engine for years previously, primarily for the US market (hence the strange choice of the non metric capacity of 135cc)....As an employee of IAME Mike was the beneficiary of this rule change and won at least 3 consecutive titles with virtually no competition.......
