Actually getting to seed zero is a really hard problem that was solved by some people reverse engineering the string to seed conversion. It's cool you found another way to get there!

6:23 I personally call them chunk cliffs. Just because that’s what they are. Cliffs between chunks. Usually this is due to corruptions, or generating terrain in different versions. It’s neat, and they sometimes just happen in normal worlds and I don’t know why. It’s obvious when they happen in an ocean or when they destroy a structure.

1.2.1 most likely fixed it because 1.2.1 is one of the versions where the server isn't mixed with the client. 1.3 mixed the client and the server

I accidentally logged onto my 1.18.2 creative testing world on 1.8 awhile back. I realized it before it completely loaded though and did alt + f4. All of the structures I had made before are gone and there is a checkerboard of chunk errors at spawn but it still works and is playable. It's really neat to look at although if I had done this to one of my survival worlds I would have been completely devastated.

I did something similar to this in a superflat world for an old version I always played on years ago. I'd get whatever OP enchants or stuff I wanted, and was free to explore the insane terrain. I think the steps I did were below: I tried to remember the best I can: 1) go to a older version from your current version (1.2.5 is the one I used a lot) 2) choose a super flat world and create it 3) load that Super Flat world in beta or something. After you die by suffocation, then 3) go back to the version you created the world with (in this example, 1.2.5.) 4) You'll see a normal world / flat world split

It was probably like 1.10 at the latest and I was playing on a crappy laptop with way too many mods/mod loaders, probably broke the poor thing lmao

For each one that you got a complete new world is because the world save format was different. So technically every time you got a new world the older game could not see that a world still existed. Just the world folder could be seen. since a older game cannot read the new save formats. So now if you look in the region folder you will see 2 or 3 different formats rather than just the 1.

Seed 0 happens when you badly mess up your world to the point where it can be loaded, it’s just very very corrupted and Minecraft doesn’t want your pc to crash so it loads Seed 0. In newer versions, you can actually go to seed 0 without having to get your world corrupted or typing: "pollinating sandboxes" into the seed area

6:38 That is caused becouse 1.2 and later use the "Anvil" save format, but Beta 1.3 all the way up to 1.1 use the "MCRegion" save format. That's why it says "Must be converted" in the save load menu

I used to do this in Pocket Edition, by changing apks (the update block is my favorite still) and using an app to change the seed of the world to a superflat, causing those chunk cliffs.

I once built a map in 1.8 and then accidentally opened it in 1.5. It was super weird, almost the entire build was broken, except the walls, which turned from stone bricks, to normal stone and to this day, I have no idea why, cause it's not like stone bricks didn't exist yet. Either way, it was very weird

Before 1.13, blocks had numeric values instead of minecraft:stone_bricks, and if stone was 15 then stone bricks was 15:3, because a colon meant it was a different type of block. In 1.5, the stone bricks type number was different than the 1.8 stone bricks type number, and if the type number doesn't exist, it's removed, hence why it turned to stone.

I played a Creative world in 1.9 but accidentally made a repeating command block at spawn that summoned an exponentially growing number of entities which crashed my game when I loaded the world. I got rid of it by downgrading to 1.8 (before repeating command blocks) then updating to 1.9 again. A couple of chunks near spawn were re-generated like they were from a different world.

Once did this with a 1.6 world I had. I was very proud of it (despite a lot of cheating). I updated it to 1.7.10, but degraded back to 1.6 for a mod I think. All my chests were empty, and inventory was gone. The world and all my structures still stood, but animals where gone, and so was my loot.

This is super helpful! I’m trying to play in a world and keep that save file consistent throughout downgrading versions. Have you found a way to downgrade where it doesn’t reset builds or structures or seeds? If I build a dirt shack in 1.18 but want to downgrade to 1.2 and keep the same shack present

The chunk resets if there’s any new blocks from a new version in the chunk that doesn’t exist in 1.2 for example so let’s say there’s deep stone loaded in a 1.18 chunk If you downgrade to 1.2 then the chunk will reset because deep stone doesn’t exist in 1.2

this shows that the game trys to save you world file instead of saying "ey i can't load this" every chunk it can't load in or its missing data/blocks and stuff probally get reset so thats why some stuff disappear. this is neat in a way. lets say you computer shutdown in the middle of the game saving a chunk in you world, instead of you getting the usual "you world is corrupt" minecraft will try to make it work with what it have and reset what is broken. its better than losing a save file like in other games. in this case is not that the world is missing data it acctualy have all the data but the earlier version not nessesary work with the data the same way and don't have the new data like a new mob that did not exist in 1.0 suddenly being in the world file, what the game is suposed to do? it can't spawn it, it don't have the textures no the behaviours/sounds of the mob so even if it spawnaed a invisible hitbox it would not know how the mob behave/move etc. so the game just reset the chunk whenever theres corrupted or data it don't know how to deal with. tho it seems like some things the game can't fix and it it crashes i wonder what specific file or line of the world its reading that is causing the crash.

I had a very weired experience while loading a very awkward seed in 1.16.5 i started a normal world and a bunch of flying mountains (stranded in mid air) i was so suprised a chunk went all the way upto 193 blocks

Something that is super surreal is porting over Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition worlds to modern minecraft. You can see clear cuts in the world where new generation forms. Its even more freaky in the nether because the game registers it as "Minecraft:ocean" and plays no ambient audio. But going behind the bedrock wall reveals modern nether chunks. It's very freaky.

For anyone who might find this useful; If downgrading a world and a particular chunk area keeps crashing, go back up a version and look around in spectator/creative/use xray to find any blocks that contain metadata, such as chests or mob spawners. Minecraft's data has changed form a lot over the years, and sometimes those forms are incompatible when downgrading. A consistent crash that I got when downgrading was caused by a surprise skeleton dungeon near where I was standing.

been trying to downgrade my world from 1.20.4 to 1.14 so i can get the "god" armor, i made sure to go out alot of blocks through the nether than back in the overworld so my important chunks didnt corrupt (made sure render and simulation distance were all the way down). still all chunks corrupted not just the loaded chunks, i did have a backup tho. any solutions?

I wonder if it is the same for the console versions of Minecraft. I have brief memories of downgrading to different Minecraft worlds and it did not change the world. Not sure if there is an easy way to do this, but one thing was that on an Xbox 360 version of Minecraft on an Xbox that did not update the Minecraft would send you to the first version of Minecraft on the trial. I used to use the disc for the newer version. My 360 did not have Xbox live, but I wonder what would happen if ypu went from the newest to the oldest in console versions

at 1.16 you should look underground, there should be no bedrock, why: 1.17 have got depper world. so after downgrade there is no depper world so it deleted bedrock with depper mines
