When the welfare state was first introduced there was five people working for every pensioner now it is three per pensioner. We need more immigration to support our welfare state in 15 years time there will be more people reaching retirement age than there will be people reaching working age

I think there is a difference between legal immigration and illegal immigration and too often they are conflated. Legal immigration - we know who the people are, they have shown they can support themselves either with a job or sufficient funds, they have had their applications granted before they arrive and paid all the necessary fees, they pay a lump sum in to the NHS at the start, pay tax to the country etc etc. Illegal migration is the problem for many people for all the reasons spoken so many times we are hoarse, but still no one listens and still they conflate the two types. Until we stop granting "leave to stay" so frequently/easily and stop financially supporting these people, giving them access to health care, somewhere to live, legal aid to prosecute the Government they will keep coming. As other European countries start to reduce benefits to illegals we will see the numbers coming to the UK rise. It is common sense. If I lived in a poor country with few opportunities and I heard the UK was the "promised land" I would come too. You can't blame the illegal migrant - it is the soft approach we take that is to blame.

If they can support themselves then why are we paying 8 billion a year to unemployed and economically inactive migrants? I'll give you one example. People coming to work in the care sector soon learn that the wages are pathetic and many have quit their jobs, gone on benefits and work in the black economy and are earning double what they used to for often less effort with an infanitessimal chance of ever being caught, or in the rare cases they are, receiving a truly punitive sanction. The rewards are there for playing the system. Hence why the number of care sector vacancies NEVER goes down despite years of importing people to fill these gaps.
