Hurricane Helene, Time to Move RV. Now What?

We were kicked out of O'Leno State Park days before Hurricane Helene. Will we be safer at the private campground we had to go to?
We first prepped for our camping trip (in our Grand Design Reflection fifth wheel RV) to a Florida State Park and then the Outer Banks after sitting still a month in a private campground.
But then we had to prep our RV to be safe during the second hurricane we faced this season.

Florida State Parks close and remove visitors before anticipated weather events. I saw a report that EVERY state park in Florida CLOSED! I understand why, but I don't understand sending these people out into even more danger. Where do you go!

Happy you guys are safe. We were at Thousand Trails Orlando for Helene. It wasn’t too bad here, some wind and some rain, we have experienced worse on the Washington coast. We had to change our follow on reservations due to Florida State Parks closing. Thanks for the update.

Hurricane season ? Florida must be so beautiful and fun that people put up with hurricane season.. We have earthquakes about every 20+ years or so and the damage is greatest at the epicenter. Good luck DMC

Consider KY. The weather is milder, there are 26 beautiful state parks, and the weather is much more mild. There is medical care at U of L, and UK. I'll bet all of these hurdles are tiring. There are plenty of locations to build a home base, and much less bureaucracy here in KY. Give it some thought. Continued 🙏🙏s for Larry, and of course you, his caretaker.

I am down here in Fort Lauderdale, lots of wind and some rain but that was it. And you should have come down here, tons of empty RV sites to chose from. And Alice, I feel you because I HATE wasting money.

We were at St George Island State Park when we got evacuated on Tuesday. I'm glad you were safe and able to make Larry's treatment. We headed back to Tennessee where the storm came through today as mostly rain. I am glad FL made the called early which allowed us to travel well ahead of the masses evacuating north.

Years ago we went to John Pennekamp State Park. We got to stay 1 night and a half of the next day. Mandatory evacuation for the hurricane. We went up outside of Tampa because the hurricane was to turn east. We were there for 1 day and left because the hurricane turned west. We went across to Coco Beach area. 😮 . We lucked out and only had a few drops of rain. 😮😊
