There is no such thing as the 'true one''. People can and do love multiple people in a life time. All of them different, but none of them any more or less true. I am speaking of real love of course, not atraction or just liking somebody and confusing that with love. Also true love comes in more shapes then just romantic. Soulmates take all kinds of shapes, and love is love. There is no more or less true version of it.

@Nico Lisa yes he was dead and she knew that. if they divorced then she woudln´t feel like that. She felt like that becasue he died and she still loved him but now she was moving on and marrying someone else so she felt like she was betraying her love for him by also loving someone else. There are no facts in there just feelings and she felt like that. It makes sense to me.

To be honest, I never got over Matthew's death. After season 3 ending, it was all too painful for me to watch. Matthew was the character I rooted for right from the beginning, so lovable and so lovely, and to see Mary grieving him and settling elsewhere...still gives me so much pain. It is always gonna be Mary and Matthew for me, I've watched this scene so many times and have cried each time. I've watched the scene where he had proposed to her on that snowy Christmas night and I had giggled every time. Each scene of Mary and Matthew together gives me so much joy and happiness, as does the thought of him being no more gives me so much anguish whenever I think of it. Mary cannot love anyone as much as she loved Matthew, some moments just remain, intact and irreplacable.

Although I’m not fully understand why she must married another man, especially after the kind of love she shared with Matthew.. I didn’t feel that kind of connection with her other suitors, not even Henry Talbot.. Perhaps the writers wanted her to have her closure.. but for me Matthew will always be the one..

I wonder why Mary has to marry again when she has Georgie. She will be busy in raising his son, managing the large estates and Downton Abbey . The fact that England at that moment is in rapid revolution of reforms especially in the parliament, she is also busy responding to changes. Why Julian Fellows did not think of that. You are making Mary a hungry woman for sex and company when she has so many things to do. She is a busy woman, she has to take care of the charity foundation to manage. Life for Mary is a busy one. Not a hungry detergent for sex and companionship.ooooh. Julian Fellows take note, it is a modern world.

Sometimes, I ask myself why the creator has not stretch his imagination in making the story to suit to the women viewers. Mary is an independent woman it does not reflect her real self. Julian Fellowes be careful in writing your story, there are many experts watching DA.

@@manolitarosales4242 One should not fall into the trap of shaming women for wanting a stable romantic relationship and intimacy, it's a natural human thing. Why shouldn't she want those things while being an independent woman? There is nothing wrong with marrying again after being widowed, to look for companionship and emotional stability. Of course Matthew and Mary's love story is probably one of the best in fiction, their couple is quite iconic, but I liked the fact that she married again, it gives a realistic twist to the story, and it showed how M&M were actually more than husband and wife, they were soulmates. They were linked even when apart.

As a viewer you became so invested in the whole Matthew and Mary thing that when they ‘killed him off’ it was a real jolt to the gut....and in a Christmas Day special too...that made my Christmas pudding taste a bit jaded I tell you! But you became almost an emotional part of the relationship...in the next season when Blake and Gillingham started sniffing round her, I hated it... I wanted to shoo them both away on Matthews behalf.

Yes! While watching the scenes, I keep on shouting: "No, no, no!" and growling like a dog, shooing these guys that go crazy to her! But I am happy for Mary that she got back to the "world" and doing things for the estate. Moreover, Violet was ever so kind. There was a scene where Tom, Mary and her was taking about the feeling of falling in love and they just felt Lucky to have found one even when they are already gone. And I love how the dowager who noticed Mary's and Violet's grief and encouraged them to come back to life. It is truly painful. But I keep on thinking that at least Mathew died bliss fully. They poured their love for each other. That same as Mary, he Will always be the first true love. 🥺🥺🥺 Oh my heart!

For me the series definitely lost something when Matthew died. He helped make Mary more tolerable but after his death she goes back to her very spiteful ways with Edith. I always thought it was very ironic that Mary never would be the Countess of Grantham since the position would skip her entirely and go straight to George’s future wife instead. Instead she married a car mechanic while Edith became a Marchioness!

The writer and producers made a huge mistake by creating the flawless character like Matthew, without being certain that Dan Stevens would play the role until the end of the show. It was extremely unfair to the fans, as no one managed to fill his shoes, so it lost its thrill after 3rd season. I still gave it a chance, watched till the end, but 4-6 seasons were utterly disappointing. It’s just unbelievable that Mary who has experienced great love with Matthew, would get seriously involved with that superficial car racer. I understand how hard it was to fill the void left by Matthew’s death, but Mary didn’t have to find a new love interest. She could have become a strong, independent woman and cherish the memories she had with Matthew. I had a feeling that the writer didn’t want the show to become too tragic, so he almost ignored the mourning process that follows the death of a loved one. I know they portrayed Isobel Crawly as a strong woman who didn’t show her feelings, however it’s so odd how she almost never mentions him and is just cheerful most of the time. In the end it could have been a great show, had it ended with Dan Stevens’ departure from the show. This way they wouldn’t have to kill him off and Mary and Matthew could have been given the happy ending the fans deserved.

Henry Talbot is the complete opposite of Mary. Talbot is more of extravagant character who likes car and travel. Mary is a modern girl with complete independence and a principled woman just like her grand ma the Dowager Countess Violet. Talbot is spendthrift guy, not the kind of man of Mary to marry. Why him? Matthew's character is the man of Mary who is brave and strong. Not the kind of guy Mary wanted to marry. Wrong choice. I do not understand Julian Fellowes' imagination and line of logic. Why him? He is an expensive and extravagant man. He is the one who can make Mary poor. Please take Talbot out of the story. Besides, he is not handsome.
