I love how Mr. Carson doesn’t go over-the-top with his proposal. That’s not his way and it’s not Mrs. Hughes’ way. It’s just a special quiet moment of honesty and rare vulnerability from him.

But wasn’t it hilarious when it hit Mrs. Hughes what total marriage was all about and she sends Mrs. Patmore to deal with Carson??
@amethystanne45867 ай бұрын
@@Shakespearelover1717 Mrs. Patmore acted like a true friend to the both of them. She chose her words very carefully. I can almost feel my own cheeks blush every time I watch this portion of the episode. For that time period, “marital bliss”, as a phrase, would have been too risqué.

Perhaps being single in my mid-50s makes me extra-nostalgic about the Merton/Isobel and Carson/Hughes proposals… it’s never too late in our relatively short lives to find a partner who completes us. We all just want to feel wanted/needed and loved, and it CAN happen later in life. What a wonderful takeaway from those two scenes ❤

I was really rooting Marry and Lord Gillinghan, it's so disappointing of her but he's too good for her anyway. Glad to see Isobel end up with Lord Merton and no longer all alone, also Mr Carson and Mrs Hughes. What a good writing to involve middle age and elderly still can find love and happiness in relationships.

Edith's attitude with men is the classic result of a child overlooked by parents and not given sufficient attention but let sibling put them down. Easily involved with older men to heal the father wound and easily falls into physical touch/ pre-marital affairs since seeking comfort and reassurance lost from the mother wound. WELL PLAYED Downton, WELL PLAYED. In the end she gets the Marquess, because somehow, when such people heal from the wounds, they turn out to be the most altruistic and end up with the best partners. RIGHTLY PLAYED Downton.

I was just thinking about Carson marrying Mrs Hughes and her NOT quitting to tend house and sit at home as his wife... When all of a sudden did he become all modern and progressive? Seriously, am I wrong? Wouldn't any woman in that era automatically be expected to quit her post and tend house instead?!?
