She was indeed a kleptomaniac, though she didn’t actually steal things. She’d pick them up and admire them in such a way her hosts would feel obliged to offer them to her as a gift from the house. My father knew people she occasionally visited and they made a point of hiding anything readily portable before she arrived.
@mariahoulihan948311 күн бұрын
she didn;t steal.. at all. She used to comment about how lovely something was.. and the hosts whose house she was in felt rather compelled to let her have it. lol.

It's extra special now, and we will miss the incredible Maggie Smith. No matter how many times I watch Mosely doing his thing in the dining room, I laugh.

Yes, I agree. It was an unnecessary and cringey scene. It didn't add anything, and demeaned a beloved character for cheap laughs from insensitive people who like "cringe humor". It is irrelevant whether or not the actor liked it. Actors always want more lines and attention, regardless of the quality of it, and often regardless of whether it detracts or adds to the character or storyline. This scene did not help anything or anyone.

@DUCKDUCKGOISMUCHBETTER2 ай бұрын
@@amethystanne4586 I agree with you about the wedding. Too many recent weddings have been glossed over. Downton needs to be a series again. It simply doesn't work as well as a series of movies. It ruins the flow and shortchanges each of the stories. It also induces a typical and unavoidable oneupmanahip mentality in the writer, vis-a-vis previous movies or the series, in which he knows that everything rides on the next movie in order to keep it going. Which leads to some preposterous writing, in contrast to the excellence of the series. The same thing happens in science fiction, such as the Star Trek movies versus the first two Star Trek series. It's pretty universal. Some things just need to be series, and never or infrequently, made into movies. There was no need or reason to ever end the series. Yes, thank you about the username. I've got lots of compliments about it. Apparently the G Empire is not at all popular, except for its toadies who literally must think it can do no wrong, simply because it is big. In other words, the old failed "might makes right" theory. "The bigger they are, the harder they fall", is my theory. We'll see who's right in the end. All I can see regarding G is the modern-day MySpace and Altavista, just waiting to be knocked off by the next thing. And I can't wait. I'll be celebrating that day!

Imagine being from those ex colonies today and watching this ! The matter to them is not the colonies, nobody questions colonialism in those series. Edith is just worried about not having her husband when she delivers (because he is going to those colonies) , Mary is worried about money and her husband watching cars in chicago (another former colony to the native americans), cora and the lord grantham are just worried about being good enough for the head of colonialism coming to eat at their place although they know that this head of state has the blood of hundreds of millions of people on his hands (i mean adolf and stalin would have been lesser to have dinner with in terms of victims due to them). Cora is american so she should be a republican but she turned her back on her country and became a monarchist even though she has no9 aristocratic background, so she is a traitor to americans actually, and yet to everyone who wants to hear it that she claims she is american ! Tom is basically betraying the whole of ireland by sitting at the same table an breaking bread with the king, Boy when you start thinking about it all, nothing makes sense in those series. Oh and pushing the sinderby aldrige levinston BS into the narrative is the most ridiculous part of all, making them pass for the victims and the good guys when in fact they are the very reason the old aristocratic system is collapsing in the UK and all over Europe leading to world war 1. They literally orchestrated WW1 .

@@brucebrown1144 I am not the kind of person who looks away when something is problematic. I am ancient French aristocracy dating back to the 9th century, so i should watch this show as part of my heritage since french and british (and all of european) aristocracy has always been a bunch of cousins . But i can't pretend that there not a problem about this show. You see, i am not proud that my family owned slave ships. We were a massive part of colonialism and the slave trade. I am also fully aware that my family has destroyed countless ecosystem and is responsible for the extinction or quasi extinction of hundreds of animals species. And yet this is nothing compared to what the king of england in those days did. I am also fully aware that this is because of the sinderby and the aldridge and the levinston tat my family lost a great deal of its wealth and that we went into world war 1 and 2 causing the death of millions of french and brits for the benefit of the sinderby and eldridge and levinston. I am also married to a descendant of those former colonies and i kn ow what they went through and still go through today because of what we did. So NO i don't turn off anything or look the other way. @@larrygraysmith8411 No YOU go and educate yourself Over 60 million Native americans (Native Nation people) were killed over 100 years of western expansion in the west, add to that an extra 15 millions in the following century, that's 75 million people. Add to that the 165 million Indians from India due to British colonialism between 1880 and 1920. Add to that the at least 20 millions africans killed due to british colonialism in africa from egypt to south africa, including the slave trade. Put together that's 290 million people due to british colonialism alone. So i am not exaggerating anything, It is all on the net just look it up. That is more people killed by one country than world war 1 and 2 put together. And that does not even include the Aboriginals of Australia the Native of Hawaii and New Zealand, the South American colonies, and Burma, Ceylon, Malaya, Singapore, Hongkong etc,... Because then we top 300 million victims in total. I never write anything that i can't back up with facts. No, indeed no sane person can claim that, which makes the british empire far from being sane.
