That is great! Have you been to Bellingham before? And how far away are you moving from? Bellingham is a great place to live...I have been here 24 years, raised 2 daughters, and love all the amazing scenery and outdoor activities.

I do not buy or use pot, so I can claim ignorance on my part! I stand corrected, and you are correct, Cheba Hut is not a dispensary. But my other statements where correct, we have a lot of dispensaries in Bellingham...seems like everywhere you look 😂

Is the property crime overexaggerated? I'm moving close by at the beginning of next month, and am being warned constantly about the crime in Bellingham.

Peoples comments on crime are typically anecdotal...if one had a bike stolen recently, then one might say the crime is out of control. I always encourage people to visit the Bellingham Police Department website where you can look up the crime statistic numbers. What brings you to the Bellingham area? Have you ever been here....I am sure you will like many things about the area. I sure do! 😀

Eight year resident here. If it’s not nailed down, especially in the downtown area, it’s gonna get stolen. Wish I could sugarcoat this, but it’s the truth.

This video looks at downtown through some very rose colored glasses. There is LOTS of open air drug use and sales along with plenty of homeless downtown. And throughout the entire city (along guide meridian specifically)

Thanks for your thoughts. I agree Bellingham could improve on the homeless problems...like almost every other city in the Country. But there are way more areas of Bellingham that do not have drug and homeless issues. Have you seen the brand new Lighthouse Mission being built. I think that shows some proactive efforts to support those in unfortunate life circumstances. I am always thankful when I see private capital being used to strengthen a community.

Moved to Bellingham in 2015; not trying to be inflammatory, just share some thoughts. Our cute “downtown” is nearly unusable due to the homeless population and general shenanigans. We could have a super cool, thriving downtown, but it’s just not happening. To put it another way, I know lots of Moms through my daughter’s school; nearly all of those Moms are afraid of spending even daylight hours downtown. I’m a slightly scary full size bearded male, and I always bring pepper spray downtown. Back when we moved here, we had an apartment right in the middle of everything, at the corner of Railroad & Holly; thought it would be awesome! Nope, not awesome; constantly disturbed by the street population and had our gated parking garage broken in to. Sadly, it has gotten worse since then. There are a few shining spots downtown; fancy coffeehouses, the kids museum, and a couple of decent restaurants. Also, Waypoint Park is great, especially with the dirt bike track(aka pump track). However, each visit is always a bit stressful knowing that another crackhead might be lurking around each corner, especially as I walk with my child. I’m as progressive as my other Bellingham comrades, but something has to change. Anyhow, finally bought a house well away from the shenanigans and still enjoy the general area. Cheers and good luck.

Thanks for your thoughtful reply. What are the top 3 things you would suggest us Bellingham Lovers should do to make Bellingham an even better place to live? I will do my part if you have some good ideas. I am just trying to share with the world the good and positive things about our community. But I know we all must be willing to offer a hand to make it even better.

What's the political vibe in Bellingham? Are some areas more conservative or more liberal? I'm center-left, but very against the delusional woke-cult obsessed with gender nonsense, transitioning children, etc. Any areas better/worse for me? I think a lot of people would like to know. Also, what were the vaccine mandates like? Was there much push-back or widespread compliance? Thanks!

Bellingham is a college town. Walking the downtown corridor you’ll see lots of piercings, purple hair and flannels. Also lots of BUMS/druggies, downtown is horrible, he was good about not showing the homeless population in this video

Most would agree Bellingham is on the more liberal side. Although there are just as many conservatives as well. People tend to associate with people who think like themselves, so there can be an inherent bias when asking someone's opinion about Bellingham. Their answer will most likely align with their own personal experiences, beliefs, and biases. Bellingham is a great town and there is something for everyone. What I also like about Bellingham, is most productive citizens, whether right, center, or left, are extremely involved in the community and make positive contributions as a whole. There will always be those that troll around and complain about all the problems, yet do little to contribute to anything worthwhile. As far as vaccines mandates, most people complied and most businesses required masks, but as comparison, Vancouver BC was way more strict about checking vaccine cards when entering businesses. DM if you want more info on specific thoughts on different areas within Bellingham.

From what I heard, Bellingham was a lot worse in the 1960's - 1980's. In the 24 years I've been here, Downtown Bellingham has made tons of improvements as well.
