Downtown | Montréal Emergency Services - MAJOR RESPONSE TO 2ND ALARM FIRE & ON-SCENE FOOTAGE

TUESDAY, JUNE 27, 2017 - At approximately 8:00 PM (EST), the SIM (Service de sécurité incendie de Montréal), SPVM (Service de police de la Ville de Montréal), Urgences-Santé and STM (Montréal Transit Corporation) Fire Prevention responded to reports of a fire with visible smoke emanating from the inside of an abandoned apartment hotel building located at 400 René-Lévesque Boul. in the Downtown district of Montréal, QC. Firefighters quickly escalated the call after determining that the fire was a 10-12 (2nd alarm fire) and scores of units, including dozens of firefighters, began responding to the scene. Various rarely-seen apparatus, such as the the SIM's Command Post 1005, Shelter Bus 1473, Air Supply Unit 1605, Fire Investigation Unit 911 as well as the Police Department's Motorcycle Division can be seen arriving on the scene as the situation progresses. After about an hour after firefighters made entry to the building, the fire seemed to have been put out. No further information is known about the origin of the fire.
The abandoned building seems to be owned by the Montréal-based clothing company Point Zero, who announced in early 2015 that they were planning to renovate the place into a luxury boutique hotel in partnership with American boutique brand Sixty Hotels by late 2016. So far, it seems like the venture was a failure, given that by the time this video was filmed, the dilapidated building still had the previous "undistinguished" 3-star hotel's name over its facade: "La Tour Centre-Ville".
