Montreal Emergency Services - MAJOR RESPONSE To Sinkhole & ON-SCENE FOOTAGE - SPVM, SIM, U-S, STM

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 3, 2016 - At approximately 4:00 PM, emergency services received a call that a sinkhole had opened up in a tunnel near the Gare d'autocars de Montréal (Montreal Coach Terminal) adjacent to Métro Berri-Uqam in the Quartier Latin area of Montréal. The SIM (Service de sécurité incendie de Montréal), SPVM (Service de police de la Ville de Montréal), U-S (Urgences-Santé), STM (Société de transport de Montréal) Sûreté et Contrôle and Prévention Incendie responded quickly and evacuated the area's buildings and streets, shutting down Berri Street between Ontario Street and de Maisonneuve Boulevard. After inspection, it was determined that the sinkhole posed no further immediate threats and engineers deemed the structure safe.
Many rarely-seen units can be seen in this video, including several SIM Divisional Chiefs, the SIM Disaster Relief bus, several SIM Technical Rescue Group trucks, as well as SPVM unmarked / stealth vehicles and units from the Sécurité Routière division.

While this was great footage and it was quite interesting to see the special units, I was very disappointed not to see the sinkhole itself. I understand that you couldn't get close to it due to all the firemen and police there, but could you just post a quicky of the hole itself?

+Holly Rockwell Thank you for your compliments! Regarding the sinkhole, it was actually *inside* the bus terminal building, which had been evacuated immediately after the incident happened. Police had also restricted access to anyone near the building and later shut the entire street down, rerouting both vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Therefore, it was quite impossible to get anywhere near the sinkhole itself, unless you wanted me to get arrested 😉 . I admit that it would have been a great addition to my video, though! Thanks!

+Rangers36978 The SPVM's official uniform is black shirts with black pants. However, due to austerity measures put into place by the provincial government (and since essential service employees don't have the right to strike), the officers have been wearing camo pants and shorts in replacement of their duty pants, have stuck protest stickers onto their vehicles and have worn red caps in opposition. I know they're not very nice to look at, but it's one of the only ways that they can voice their discontentment.

+Rangers36978 The Fire Department trucks no longer have stickers on them, save for one on each front door. At one point, firefighters went so far as to paint the firetrucks matte black, yes, but were ordered to return the trucks back to their normal look. The Police Department is the one with the stickers now.

+Aidan Drew It's literally a hole that opens up suddenly, due to soil erosion and such. In this incident, part of the floor of a walkway collapsed into the ground, which is what a sinkhole is.
