You've made an old Pittsburgh Girl happy... a little envious, but happy. I was born in the late 1950's in Elizabeth Township, Pa. We might have been 25 or so miles away, but I always considered myself a "Pittsburgh Girl." I moved away in 1984 to live in Virginia. But you know what ? You can take the girl out of Pittsburgh, but you just can't take the Pittsburgh out of the girl ! Every December, Mom, Grandma and I went Christmas shopping in Downtown Pittsburgh. We'd catch the bus in Elizabeth, and for a small town girl, Pittsburgh was amazing. It was magical. Thank you for letting me see it again. BTW, every summer we would catch the train in Pittsburgh to travel to Atlantic City. Back then it was called The Broadway Limited, but it took a lot of the same route you took. The only difference is that I think it went on to Chicago. I remember Horseshoe Curve well, I always looked forward to it. The return trip was on The Capital Limited. Great memories. Anyway, thanks for sharing. I'm looking forward to the videos still to come.

Hey Jay, wonderful tour of Pgh! I grew up in a suburb until I got married and moved out of state. I'm living in the area again and have never heard of the Drury Hotel. I think those conference rooms with the massive vault doors would make an excellent bomb shelter! I love that this hotel chain buys up old historical or abandoned buildings & keeps the character of the original architecture alive. The art deco style of the lobby and old elevator area was gorgeous! I would love to stay there. Thanks for all the info, what an amazing building.

The coldest I have ever been in my entire life was standing along the water's edge in Point State Park waiting for the implosion of Three River's Stadium. It was worth the wait though! Nice to see that area again. Someday I'm going to get back to that city for a "proper tourist visit". I've never heard of Drury Hotels, but that one was spectacular. I Actually stayed in in this exact hotel also. When we checked out they had our car on the garage with a few others because the parking garage had been filled to the brim at this time. So instead of us sitting in the cold to wait for our car to be brought all the way around the street since the garage is located on the back of the building, the manager of the hotel personally took us downstairs right by the vault doors to get our car. So he showed them to us and all of that. There is also a gorgeous pool and hot tub there. And the lobby is so cool my favorite part about it was the ceiling.

I'm a lifelong Pittsburgher and I didn't know the Federal Reserve had been converted into a hotel. That was very interesting to see. Confusingly, the building with the UPMC (University of Pittsburgh Medical Center) signage is still named the U.S. Steel Tower. Richard Caliguiri died while he was mayor. He was quite popular. I was in sixth grade when he died and we had the day off for his funeral. That building is called the City-County Building. It's basically city hall, but the county also has offices and courts in the building. For some of the old buildings on Grant Street (like the court house), the second floor was the original first floor because the street level is lower now than it was originally. A big hump was removed to lessen the steepness of getting to Grant Street.

Born and raised in Pittsburgh. 412 for life! Nice video, just some pronunciations: Duquesne is pronounced Doo-Kane. The infamous mayor of the city was Mayor Richard S. Caliguiri pronounced Cali-jury. Pittsburgh's annual Great Race (10k) is named after him. Thanks for highlighting our city.

Yes! The incline is SO cool to ride! Definitely do that! That hotel is truly a treasure, and an amazing deal. What a beautiful suite you had! I would love to go and stay there. How far was it from the train station? And how did you get from the station to the hotel? Loving this video series 😊

Pittsburgh union station where Amtrak dropped us off is literally a 5min walk. You can see our hotel from the rotunda.

You have to go to PNC Park, even if the Pirates aren't playing. Its the coolest baseball park and alot of fun especially for a game! Pittsburgh has so much that you almost have to live there to ever experience it fully. Trust me i lived there for 35 years and there is still things on my list to do...lol And thats not even getting into all the stuff just outside the actual city limits.. there is alot!
