Thanks for sharing the alteration of a stretch top and using the Seraflex thread which I was not aware of. Had a look online here in Australia and I can get it and so will order a few in my next order of this thread and hopefully that should solve the problem I am having with sewing hems on t'shirts and stop the wavy outcome I seem to be getting. Have tried all different ways of getting this problem solved so willing to try one more way and give this a go before paying for a coverstitch machine to have a perfect result.

Hi Elizabeth! I've myself been knowing this type of thread just for few years, but never used it until one year ago and loved it! Anyway, the following video might help you with your problems with Tshirt hems. Another solution that I didn't include on this video is gluing a very thin knit interfacing that will help you stabilize the fabric. Good luck! kzbin.info/www/bejne/fqikgaWwe7qBmJI

Thank you so much for this video! I am going to try this alteration on a T shirt. With broad shoulders and a chest, I have lots of shirts that don't fit correctly in the front. I am so happy you showed us how dart & take in a knit shirt. I wouldn't have thought about attempting the sleeves until I saw you do it.

Omg! This video's timing is excellent. Just yesterday, I found a top in the back of my closet that I never wear because it fits even worse than this one did! It is shaped very similarly, except it is denim. I think it will be pretty easy to alter with the pinning technique you demonstrated; it already has darts, they just need to be taken in some. Question: the sleeves on my top arr just a little bit tight, is there anything can do? Also, I would add some trim or something ro make them reach my elbows if I could. Any suggestions
@DowntownTailoring2 жыл бұрын
Yes. You can try to find a contrasting texture or color to add cuffs as I demonstrated on the lengthening pants video. The same fabric can be used to add a godet to widen the sleeves. I hope this helps 😊
@TheLovelyMissBeans2 жыл бұрын
@@DowntownTailoring oh! A godet, od course! I think I'll add a little knit fabric Godot..maybe white...and then some eyelet lace trim, and then i can trim out the collar too and it will be adorable!!! 😁

the shirt was pulled back on the bust causing pleats and very raised on the stomach which gives an appearance of being undersized in a round silhouette.
@DowntownTailoring2 жыл бұрын
Yes. Everyone has a different taste of how the fitting should be. The challenge of doing alterations right is to do a totally different fitting to the same garment to two different personalities and styles. Sometimes, myself, I get worried while pinning and advice the customer of the outcome (no so aesthetic for me) if we follow his/her wishes. Of course, in a very delicate manner as I want them to obtain their vision, not mine. So, they think about it and we go ahead with what their vision is. In the case of this video, it might be exactly the same with you as you might prefer a more traditional fit and length which is great but not what we were looking for. Anyways, this detail shouldn't distract of the process which is the very steps needed to achieve a desired look. If the hem should be longer. The viewer will pin it longer, etc. This is more about the work than the style people should pursue which, obviously, should be personal. I hope this helps 🙂

Can you alter the collar?

Yes! But it isn't a good idea because the collar has to be cut, and the neckline has to be reduced sometimes in an awkward way. Hope this helps!

Sometimes a smaller size is too tight across the bust, and then the side seam doesn't hang straight, but pulls to the front. #bigboobproblems🙃
