How come absolutely zero reviews bring up the story or characters, in any way....? Is there no story? The online store promises "captivating story featuring interesting and thoughtfully designed characters". I'll be needing more than a reason of "it looks cool", to go floating around in virtual space for unknown amounts of time, "upgrading" my ship. Why am I upgrading? Is there a bad guy? Am I bored, rich, for hire..???!?!!!!

This game feels very empty and unfinished. I was bored senseless after the first day playing it, I only got the game maybe 3 weeks ago and I've already not been playing it for about 2 and a half weeks lol would not recommend.

it has a bit of a steep learning curve for sure. took me about 7 runs before i finally completed a play through (on easy).. I'm really looking forward to Everspace 2!!

This is the game of my dreams, and the graphics are amazing. Unlike other space flight games it actually looks fun to play.... I can't understand why it isn't more popular. I guess sci fi fans prefer the fetch--quest, mining, simulation aspect of games such as EVE, No Man's Sky, Star Citizen, etc (which I personally find tedious). If the developers figured out a way to combine the awesome dogfight mechanics with a ground-based action style 3rd person RPG FPS like Mass Effect I could see it being a winning formula. Imagine the RPG mechanics and story of a game like Mass Effect combined with intense space based combat.

It does run very well. I'm sitting with a much weaker PC, about twice as weak, but I still have High\Ultra settings and run 30-60 fps, I've even streamed it without any issues. Also, no SSD.

there are a couple of kinda harder enermies that could be seen as "bosses" in the game.. Ancients, Frigates, and a final swarm fight

You've done a very good job of making this empty, unfinished, bore fest sound worth picking up. I bought this game in its fully released state and I was bored by the first day. You just play until you die then repeat, the story is terrible. The fact you basically start over every time you die was not a good touch imo either, I'm sure some will like it if you have no need for deph in a game its OK I guess but that's all it is, a mindless spaceship shooter.

This game is ridiculously stupid and irritating. Don't waste your money and time. You are meant to die...repeatedly, and start over, making very minuet progress each time. As well, every time you die, you lose everything you've gained, like better weapons. You continually have to start over from scratch. I can't believe people like this crap of repetitive death.

Yeah pretty similar game mechanics, only you get more permanent upgrades for future runs in this than you do in FTL which imo was a little too harsh with the perma-death thing and having to start over with no improvements.

While there are explorative components to the game, the protagonist, for all intents and purposes, is the ship itself. Wouldn't make sense to leave it behind. That said, the final mission in the current build is planet-side, but there is no way to land on the terrain.
