Dowry and Alimony are two different things. Dowry is paid only once that too a small token amount however, alimony is demanded as a part of property worth Lakhs of rupees. Maintenance is also to be paid throughout life. Also, parents of Bride seek high earning Grooms having salary in Millions of rupees per annum, a huge well furnished house, Car etc. and when asked about Dowry they say "We are against it!"

But alimony / maintenance can't be denied. Furthermore, as I said Dowry is demanded only once i.e. at the time of marriage, but Bride's parents want groom earning lakhs of rupees per month / year along with a big house, land, Gold and Bank Balance. I don't support such scenario but I don't think such cases you mentioned above happens cz law has loopholes, it has to do with lot of things but law. Marriage concept is a binding one to both partners. Every religion has been accommodated by our country's legal jurisprudence. Such as Muslim Marriage Law, Hindu Marriage Act, Special marriage Act etc. I don't think marriage should be abandoned. Some aberration can only be exceptions not general picture.

Yes, I am against the marital rape and also the dowry and I firmly believe that women should get their justice if they are being sexually or mentally harassed by husband in the name of dowry or sex. But now comes the concept of Alimony and Maintenance by men to women (which is significantly more than the cases of women giving alimony to men as per the video) , I don't understand why it's seen as a progressive step by woman rather than failure of her to create her own earning opportunities. In the past years, India has seen a huge jump in the equal opportunities for both men and women . At almost all of the workplaces we are seeing the gender neutral behaviour. Governments and organizations are working constantly in the direction of equal oportunities to women and we are really seeing the results. In current times its as easy for woman to get a job as man. Then why refrain from earning by yourself and harassing your husband for your expenses which is against the fundamental human rights. And about the women organizations, if they work hard to get an earning occupation for divorced non-working women IN THE SAME WAY THEY WORK HARD TO GET THE DIVORCED WOMAN ALIMONY AND MAINTANENCE FROM HUSBAND, I believe it would be benefical for both husband and wife. And I have a message to all the men out there, India is a democratic country , every person has an equal right to raise his voice irrespective of gender , then why suffering from the alimony and maintainence knowing that it's a hard hit on you lifetime earnings. Come on get up raise your voice against this societal evil.I strongly believe that like feminists raise their own voice if we men learn to raise out voice too, we'll definitely get the justice. This is exactly my question also...In olden times, what was mentioned in Ancient Indian History as Dowry custom by the Anglo Saxon Historians was actually Kanya Shulkam the Sanskrit phrase that meant Stree-Dhan. The wealth, gifts etc. that the bride got from both her parents and in-laws and other fraternity members on the eve of marriage. This concept is somewhat similar to that Mehr under Islamic Law of Marriage where the Nikaah naama or marriage contract signed by both parties consensually agree to entrust an amount of money called Mehr to the bride in the event of Talaaq or divorce of those getting married in the present. The concept of Kanya Shulkam under Hindu laws or Mehr under Muslim personnel laws aimed at providing contingency financial support to bride. In the later Modern day and age changes in the legal procedures of Marriage have intervened to render Kanya Shulkam or Dowry (whether extracted by consent or coercion on marriage) as illegal...Thus bride is not received officially anything from any quarter (ignoring the gifts etc..given voluntarily by others)...on Divorce Alimony should not be expected either. This is when the bride not the groom wants divorce...that the bride is after groom's money not the anything else. Ideally whatever Dowry Gifts Kanya Shulkam is granted is the bride's alone and groom has no share in it ..so on divorce she may withdraw from the groom's life after divorce with her Kanya Shulkam or Dowry or Mehr not anything else. An exception to this rule can be made if the bride is financially too poor and groom volunteers to pay alimony on his own despite the bride's insistence on separation

When you can not justify something with reasoning then just talk about the idealistic case scenarios 😉 Husband can claim alimony if he is earning less than wife but how many times practically you see that's happening in reality ?? I believe you never seen the matrimonial ads !! Its almost impossible to find even a equal earning partner for men. when I got married, I did not take any dowry thinking its not good. after 1yr, she gave me divorce. she put a police case and took my half property( literally 50%) legally. she also had a job for which I had gave her money for tht job. also she got married to another guy now. and everyone supported it. And I am still recovering losses from past 5yrs with my job. I may recover it in another 10yrs with my job. My age is 36 now. my life is spoiled.

If the person has not taken any dowry :- Alimony should be a one time payment of 4 lakhs as upper limit and should be only the 50% of 1 year earning of the husband For ex: if he has a salary of 4lakh/annum he will only pay 2lakhs and nothing afterwards. If the woman can't start anything with that money its up to her.

And finally lawyer admitting that law is being misused. I think lawyers should work hard not for alimony and maintenance but for betterment of women. Alimony is given as compensation to the spouse (usually the wife because of our patriarchal society) who took financial set backs during the marriage. So men who don't want to pay that should marry employed women and share all the responsibilities (expenses, household chores, childcare etc) with them 🤷‍♀️

If our society were actually patriarchal, it'd be women who would have to provide "compensation" to men, and not the other way round.
