Jacques Cousteau himself helped design the Doxa sub. He preferred the black dial shark hunter, for legibility. His oldest son Jean-Michel is a friend of mine and still wears an orange professional to this day. (We compared our watches.) Also the Professional Association of Dive Instructors text book shows a Doxa sub 1200t professional . Best endorsement for a dive watch is it’s history with the Cousteau’s. If I got run over and squashed by a tank while wearing it, I'm sure that my Sub 300t would still be working after the event. Seriously considering getting myself a Sub 600 Sharkhunter next!

Got my 300T Pro a week ago. My thoughts. It doesn't look that big. Been used to larger Seiko Arnies/Bulova Lunar Pilot etc. I have a 6.5" wrist. Looks fine on my wrist with the BOR bracelet. Annoyingly with two links left it is a perfect fit but just a micro tiny fraction too tight. With three links, it dangles a bit. It does feel good, feels quality. Runs at +4 seconds a day. I do have two downers/minuses - The lume on the dial is useless, it vanishes after 3-4 minutes. The hands last a few hours but compared to a $300 Seiko...it's not great. The other one is the bezel. If you are over 40 you may struggle to use it for timing as the black numbers are tiny and...well black and do not stand out at all. However, I like the watch and will be keeping it for the time being. It's nice not to have gone the lazy Rolex route. How...ordinary!

The fact that outsiders like Rick Murray, G. Steinhart and the guys who made the re-born of the Ploprof (since Omega was hesitating about that) launching the Helson Ploprof, the Ocean-7 and others, shows that since the late 90´s-the design in sport watches became kind of stuck. I believe that the latest great-impact design was the TAG-Heuer F1 (ironically kind of heresy, since Heuer always refused to produce quartz movements...), and being a child in the 70´s watching all the advertising of that wonderful era of sport-watches, is no surprising that young generations became attracted by these icons, not just because of the design itself but because of the very important history behind them. As a watch fan, I´m very happy to see Zodiac, Aquastar, Doxa, and many others to reborn, and come back to the roots. These designs are simply timeless... Thank you for sharing and spread the brand legacy.

I own the 300T Professional with the orange dial and I love it. The bracelet doesn't bother me in the slightest, I have 6 3/4 wrist. For me £1820 is a lot of money to spend on a watch, I've had watches in the £200 price range that have never let me down and do the job as well as I need it to be done. Having said that I've just ordered a Doxa Sub 300T Professional and I'm eagerly awaiting it's arrival now. It was a tough choice between the Sharkhunter, the Professional, and the Aquamarine, but the Professional won in the end seeing as bright orange is the traditional colour for Doxas!

For you to say that the 300T wears well on the wrist, that speaks volumes about how good and well designed this watch really is. Fact: This watch has one of the biggest case "bellies" for sale. Watches with such bellies tend to wear top-heavy, unless they are strapped down snugly. And as you say, you are comfortable wearing this. Doxa was able to raise the end links high enough so that most of the weight was below the links. That is great design. The Oris SHOULD be a better wearing watch, at what, 300M water resistance, when compared to 1200M? No comparison. I do like both of your watches here, and you do a great job reviewing! Thank you.

Here's what I love about this watch; I was considering a sub 200 cause I love the yellow dial, but for a grand more, I can get the true doxa design and I'll probably go that route. 3 times the prices of the sub 200 to get the 300 is a no go, but the T for double, absolutely doable. I'll compromise on having a version thats not quite as similar as the legendary vintage models, the T is 97% and that's good enough for me.
@Psysso2 жыл бұрын
The t's are better subjectively anyway, better fit,proportions, flat sapphirre for added legibility ,bigger dial, and an escape valve,1200m wr!!, plus the price... Normal modern 300s feel more like deskdivers/dress watches.

The 2020 batch added in the HEV (now the same case as the old 1200T), and also improved the bracelet clasp. In Doxa's own words, it was a free "upgrade". Personally I prefer the 2019 300Ts without the HEVs, one less point of failure in my book + they're now an unintended limited edition! I do understand Doxas decision to add the HEV, since their marketing for the 300T kept mentioning the 300T "Conquistador", which was the 1970s 300T variant that specifically included the HEV, and a very rare and special watch, it all seemed a bit odd back in 2019 since the 300T at the time didn't have the defining feature of the Conquistador! Look at it this way... 2019 300T=remake of 1970s 300T standard model. 2020 300T= remake of 1970s 300T "Conquistador". Both excellent watches.

My thoughts? If getting a current model Doxa, go with the 300 or 1500t, skip the 300t unless you don't mind getting one on rubber, though in my opinion a stock beads of rice bracelet is an absolute MUST for a modern Doxa. The 300t is a no for me on the basis of the bracelet alone, it's far too thick and unbalanced to the case, it could slip by had the designers not chosen to go for the flared first link to give the watch bracelet the dramatically tapered look, but it's a clumsy effort, looks terrible and I don't know why they didn't stick with the 1200t's style bracelet. The 300 suffers from this a bit, but the bracelet has better proportions and the style is in line with the vintage aesthetic. The 1500t which unfortunately is not featured in the video, captures the Doxa design language while adding a touch of modern styling. The overall bulk is proportionate and fitting to its robust tool nature.

When you come to the realization that this watch uses the same movement that at least 10 Certina`s and Tissot offer for around 300$ it starts to seem a bit like a cashgrab... I love the model though! Sadly it is immensely overpriced in my opinion.
