The M1301 Infantry Squad Vehicle (ISV) is a new, lightweight, all-terrain troop carrier designed to modernize U.S. Army Infantry Brigade Combat Teams (BCTs). It is based on the Chevrolet pickup truck Colorado ZR2 architecture, deriving 90% of its parts from commercial-off-the-shelf components. The U.S. Army will field ISVs to 11 Infantry BCTs for a total of 649 ISVs by Fiscal Year 2025.

South Africa built similar small ISV 4X4's in the 1960's thru 1980's. SA troops called them Vaporizers because that is what happened to the crew when it hit a mine.
@RaptorTroll360
@RaptorTroll360 5 ай бұрын
Same as what happens when a Stryker hits a 60 to 150 pounds of IED, even if it falls back down in one piece the crew usually gets "liquefied", even v-hulls aren't capable of completely protecting the crew, especially if the IED is offset to the side and the blast is either directed by the landscape (a mountain side, a hill or even just a steep 3 ft of rise in ground level) or the amount of HME is just increased again, to the point where it does damage. In modern peer-to-peer war, the rulebook goes out the window and the troops start adapting to what works. In Ukraine, soldiers on both sides, oftentimes put several anti-vehicle landmines in a single pit on top of eachother in hopes of increasing the destructive potential, similar to Middle Eastern insurgents increasing the amount of HME in every IED.

Maybe motorcycles could play a better role in the future for quick deployment, the only problem is transporting all the stuff the new type of soldiers need these days.

@@RaptorTroll360 the solution would be something similar to the demolition man movie future cars. In the case of an explosion the inside to be filled with some sort of foam that will also deflate after 30 seconds or so, creating a more advanced type of airbag that cushions the people inside.

I remember when GM talked about these as their competition entry to replace the H1’s competing with the Osh Kosh Defense JLTV & new Hummer prototype . This was SO opposite of the other 2 entries , weighs half as much , no armor really , no roof doors or really body at all, it’s an assault vehicle that uses the soldiers as the weapons. H1/3 the cost of the JLTV but the JLTV won & I remember thinking man, a ZR2 package equipped FAST desert runner . This would be perfect for Spec Ops and recon teams and YEARS LATER. here they are! These are SO sickkk!!! I Love that GM wanted the best for our war fighters & made the ZR2 equipment package mandatory on all units it adds BOTH an selectable electronic front locking differential AND a rear selectable locking diffferential, the push of a button moving or stopped instantly locks one of both diffs and can be unlocked same way, the H1 Hummers didn’t have lockers front or rear , a vehicle this light with such a low center of gravity will be very stable off-road at highly speeds with the built up Duramax Diesel and an electric and electric hybrid versionsare being purchased as well. 5:13 gear ratio , comes with an extreme off-road engineered 4.3 :1 Rocktrack selectable transfercase low and high range and a multiplied low range Chromoly 32 spline HD axle shafts . It’ll tow A LOT and with moth lockers locked , the Cw tral tire inflation system lower air pressure electronically adjustable lifting for off-road and lowering for Chinook transport like the JLTV. As light as it is, it’s for sure the most extreme off-road capable vehicle we have . Every competition off-road option possible & I LOVE that they’re very efficient but also honestly very quick! GM governed them to top out at 80mph for some and 90mph for Special Operations assigned units.

Everyone, these are NOT replacing the HUMVEEs, the HUMVEE replacement contest was years ago, Osh Kosh Defense won and produced 125,000 heavily armored IED survivable JLTVs that are still what will be used in dangerous areas. These high speed off-road trophy truck inspired vehcicles were GMs entry in the contest but lost but ordered a few for SOCOM units to try out and loved en so they ordered a bunch for Teams work, recon, forward Observations etc , these are not foing to be the primary vehicles .

@MZ-bl6wg
@MZ-bl6wg Ай бұрын
Well the heavily armored Osh Kosh Defense JLTV won the completition to replace the HUMVEES and largely have replaced them , the JLTV is very very armored , is designed to blow apart but save the capsule, has the IED sprung seats that don’t break your back in an a explosion, has all ballistic glass all around , and an electronic crows wraps on station so you don’t have to expose yourself . The Original founders of the HUMVEE sold the rights to GM but they built a prototype hummer for the contest but lost and these were GMs entry . The military chose the Osh Kosh becasue of the armor and IeD protection and they’re replaced the HUMVEE. These were signed to a different contract as a high speed Special Operations vehicle as SOCOM Teams prefer light vehicles like land cruisers , and had a bunch of simikar vehicles to these but GM really upgraded these thugs , their fast , light have full roll cages , long travel pre runner inspired Suspension. Most of our war fighters will still operate the JLTVs and will be safe, spec ops , recon and forward observers will end up with these.

This isn't really a combat vehicle. The Army just finally realized that their Light Infantry units needed enough internal transport to move around between positions. For YEARS its been a PITA supporting Light because they never had transport so they borrowed everything they could from other units and TMP. They are not supposed to fight from these, that is why they did not include any weapon mounts. Not to mention transporting enough ammunition to not need external supply after the first day.

There's many different roles in the Services, and many different requirements. Think things like Recon, or carrying ammo loads over cleared land for the guys doing recon, not planning for a direct combat mission. Kawasaki just released a hybrid motorcycle that can only do about 15 miles on silent electric alone. But DoD has ordered about 2,000 of them for recon elements, and because they learned from the Taliban the value of being able to quickly move elements around on roads you're reasonably sure are not mined. We took Afghanistan with really expensive equipment. The Taliban took it back in a week with cheap, old, Honda motorcycles.

Should have done this in an edit - The problem is the Army is renowned for not having the right equipment in the right place. So in the future you'll probably see one of these drive by a roadside IED just because it was the only vehicle available for the poor grunts inside it at the time...

rollover seems like an odd thing to bring up when it clearly has roll bars. As far as armor plating goes, it would be a failure of leadership to suggest using these things where fighting is actually happening. It should only be used on difficult terrain outside of combat zones. There are instances in war when you just need to get things moved around in difficult to reach places. Remember even generals during ww2 were driving around in jeeps. They only did this when they were confident where the lines were. Of course they will absolutely be misused until soldiers and the public call out for better armor...then the military will be back to square one looking for something that can go where the heavy armored units can't go.

@@dewdew80 I hope they've stockpiled all the "garrison duty" armored trucks for the next time we need them.

@@jimmiller5600 I'm trying to figure out how much those weigh. Apparently, part of the requirements included being under 5,000 pounds and carriable by helicopter...also it's supposed to seat 9 people. How many people do those armored trucks carry because I genuinely don't know.

Probably not. Because they already have a replacement for the hummer that is basically the humvee with "a bunch of armor slapped on" which are the JLtv and MRAPs.
