There is a market for these old Iron horses, I am going to go look at a 1960 D4 Cat today! One can still get parts if they are willing to look and spend a little time on the project. I own a 1984 International 9670 with a Big Cam 3 Cummins motor and it has been fun finding parts for it but I have been absolutely floored on the ease of finding parts thus far. I hope you guys put it up for sale and let some land owner have the chance to use it, and let that old iron live for a little while longer. HOOAH!!!

My father n law had a hd11b it's a strong old dozer. Would have been some long days hearing that engine roar for days on end

I'll bet someone somewhere is crying now, wishing they could get their hands on that (apparently ) good running engine etc. for restoration. Oh well, there we have it. I was cringing though thinking about the coolant that might have been in the crankcase, and knowing what antifreeze can do to bearings! Interesting stuff Dennis, thanks for taking the time to put this up here.

I’m sure the engine was ruined by the time we got it loaded but it didn’t really matter.

@@DLHFarms Ruined is a relative term since those engines have sleeves. Unless the block is busted the engine can and will live for a long time. Dad and I rebuilt a 817 that he had to beat the pistons out and with new parts and a turned crank she runs like a top.

Is it around a 1976 model? Almost 50 years! She's a mean machine, with new hoses and that leak fixed.. of course neither is cheap, but newer machines aren't either. Over at letsdig18, Chris just spent good money to get his Cat track loader to stop making new oil overnight. But your 16B started really well, just a little smoky (I'll blame the injectors, ha!). I'm sure she could be running again for someone with dirt to move and time to put into it. If it's worthwhile... that's another question.
@DLHFarms2 жыл бұрын
It’s probably about that old not sure exactly.
@Parents_of_Twins Жыл бұрын
Considering how much a new machine costs fixing up the old ones can be a hell of lot cheaper and the new ones eventually need pins, bushings, etc too. I'm fixing an old MF 2200 forklift right now. After I get it fixed the next project is a International 62 series TD-6. Figure I'll have about 6k in both of them by the time they are running and working, not counting my time. Still hell of a lot cheaper than buying new or even running used.

you put a leveling laser on that old paddle wheel it will function as good and better then with an operator gauging it by eye. Paddle wheels are a great way to grade pads. what is it, 621 size. I knew a general who use DW series cans cable ejectors with a laser system: The man could afford to buy all the latest yet he used all the oldest, but it cost him because he was so cheap. He had no idea in how to maintain equipment. If it still functions you can do pads. small grading jobs. you got enough there. 8 71 aren't hard to R&R..
