I met him in 2003 without having a clue who he was. He was charming, self-deprecating, brutally candid about his career and true to his word when I eventually asked him for a small favor. My son was 8 and he was the spitting image of Hugh. He loved About A Boy and wanted an autograph. He was on cloud nine and thrilled that Mr. Grant had actually spoken to me about him.Hugh was kind enough to send a collection of his films a handwritten note and a signed photo. He's truly one of the kindest people I've ever met without being sappy or ingenuous. Also riotously funny and he really does have a touch of the awkward characters that he's so well known for. A genuinely nice man.

He is actually so hilarious. I’ve seen a lot of American interviewers say their interviews with him were awkward and therefore unpleasant but he seems a joy. I just genuinely think Americans don’t understand his humor. The paddington 2 segment where he talks about the bear in the stick had me in stitches!

Hugh Grant really puts himself down too much, he gives hisself practically no credit for any role he's ever played. I actually really like his movies, he's a good actor. Okay you could easily argue that alot of his roles are very similar, as Hugh stated himself the roles were very much like him. That being said he played them very well. If your not a fan of romcoms or romance of any level in movies then Hugh Grant's movies 9/10 won't be for you. But if you do then how can you not like Hugh Grant really? He does these roles so well, Notting Hill was awesome, Music and Lyrics was also really good. Come on, give yourself some credit Hugh.

Did you read the Sense and Sensibility Diaries? They were written by Emma Thompson during her time adapting and filming and were published together with the screenplay. And it's absolutely hilarious - no wonder, it's Emma after all. But yes, there are many descriptions of conversations like Ang telling them it was boring or saying to Emma "Don't look so old.". One of my favourites was when they shot the kiss scene for Edward and Elinor that was deleted later and Emma writes they shot it on a bridge and in the background, there were two swans that came floating in on the lake as if on cue, but Ang just said "Get rid of them. Too romantic." I would very much recommend it for everyone that loves Emma and/or the movie or is simply interested in the process of adapting a book to film.

He once said that people also just bothered to watch the heart-throb movies mentioned here and not the other stuff he did before (Maurice) or during. But I really like his "experimental" phase (Paddington, Wonka) and the weirdness/occasional darkness of the last few years. Hugh Grant's best role ever: playing Frederick Chopin in the movie "Impromptu." It's a very small production with hugely talented actors: Emma Thompson, Mandy Patinkin, Julian Sands, Bernadette Peters, and the lead female role of George Sand as played by Judy Davis, who completely lights up every scene she's in. As for Grant, he plays a foppish, precious, but sickly character, horrified by Judy Davis' bohemian antics but still fascinated by her in spite of himself. What's great here is that for once, Grant isn't chasing a woman, but being chased himself - and when the roles finally reverse in the end, the film goes up to Oscar quality. But no one remembers the film today because who cares about composers?
