I have seen this movie 19 TIMES and I STILL CRY. Andre is right in that the last moment of the film, with their hug, FEELS LIKE THE BEGINNING OF EVERYTHING! I know that a LOT of people were pissed that we didn't get to WITNESS their "union" sexually BUT they both suffered through SO MUCH that it is BEAUTIFUL that they finally get the PRIVATE SPACE TO LIVE A PUBLIC LOVE! They deserved for us to not peer into their lives after peering into their souls. I wanted to see a kiss but I FELT TENDERNESS and kisses can happen without tenderness but tenderness isn't in the touch. THIS IS A MASTERPIECE OF A MOVIE and I am so thankful to be ALIVE for MOONLIGHT! *dang it...I am crying AGAIN!

Seconded. He's hot as hell, not to mention a fantastic actor. Both Trevante and Andre gave wonderful performances. One of my favorite scenes is when his friend Kevin calls him after several years. Now, up to that point, I was thinking where is the Chiron from parts 1 and 2 in this new person? And then he picks up the phone and you can actually see him becoming young Chiron again. His performance was simply amazing. This film touched me so much I'll have to get it on dvd when it comes out.

The chemistry between Trevante and Andre during their diner/car/apt scene made you want SO MUCH MOREEEE from them . I wished the movie was longer just to see where their story went... it was a beautiful love story that came across very authentic with as little words as possible. The way both actors spoke to each other without words was MAGIC... the EYES NEVER LIE. I truly wanted them to be together , Kevin is the only one that truly knew and understood WHO Chiron was and vice versa.

I love everything about the energy that exists beween these two. They complement each other so well. I feel like this movie allowed them to find clarity in their own personal growth as men and being able to tap into your emotional side and care for another man rather ita a friendship, relationship, family member. In 2023 men aren't able to comfortably show emotions towards other men AT ALL without a negative connotation. As of 2023, I've only seen it once. Trevante in the film blew me away, reminded me of the young Brando. The big physique + vulnerability. Small gestures that pull you in, visible pain. Much less screen time than Casey Affleck in "Manchester" but more powerful work, he shoulda at least been nominated. Not to mention cinematography, set design (the blues!). We as a white couple saw this and weren't even aware there were no white actors in the film until someone pointed it out. What "universal" means, maybe.
@EscargoTouChaud3 жыл бұрын
Great interview! When Kevin confronted Chiron, I felt a lot of things. It was maybe needed, but it was also brutal. And I know Kevin did it out of affinity and respect (hence some kind of disappointment with the gold tooth thing and tough appearance), but my heart hurt for Chiron. I think that when Chiron confessed to him that their moment had been his only moment, Kevin got surprised and perhaps understood just how hard it had been for Chiron, and the "tough big brother" role melted away to be replaced by pure empathy and humanity. Such a beautiful thing when this transition comes! It restores everything.
@CarrotFlowers4217 жыл бұрын
I could watch and listen to these two forever. A very different movie that's a romance between two men, I Love You Phillip Morris, is also great to watch interviews about. Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor are very confident straight guys but also went about their roles with a focus on storytelling and real human emotion, never worrying about anything else. Takes a lot if confidence.

i waited so long to see this move and at first i was a little offish but as i watched i could see myself. growing up as a black man is hard enough but as a gay black kid trying to find yourself and your identy its hard but when you find out who your are as a person things start to change and you find that when you go through something and you work so hard at just being comfortable within yourself its amazing . i am so glad that i watched it and loved it.

This movie was so thoughtful & emotional because it showed the LGBTQ perspective from a African American aspect. I get so emotional every time that I see it. This movie should've been done many years ago but I honestly don't think that the world was actually ready for it. Just like they said in this interview, this content is very taboo & it's shied away from & isn't confronted because most African Americans choose not to be open about themselves from this point of view. Barry Jenkins & this cast was phenomenal. Everyone brought something different & it all meshed well. I remember when I watched it for the first time & I couldn't put all my emotions into words because I myself have dealt with a lot of the issues that Chiron & Kevin went through and I was seeing it being played out right before me. Mahershala's character in this movie was that mentor & makeshift guardian to Chiron & he loved him as if he was his father which is what a lot of black kids are missing growing up to have that father figure in their lives to help guide them & love them, especially the kids that are discovering who they are & why they feel different from the status quo when really we all seek love in some form of fashion. I've dealt with a few guys who don't know how to open up & express themselves so that the weight that's overwhelming is lifted & they could live in a space where that freedom to be themselves eases up. The African American community as a whole needs to focus more on love & not so much on who the next person is sleeping with because at the end of the day, it's no one's business but the two that's involved with each other. This movie "Moonlight" 🌙 will forever go down in History & also as one of my favorite movies 🎥🎬 since being able to comprehend for being able to shed a spotlight on another reason to call my race of people in a unique & excitingly complicated way.
