For many of us now senior citizen alumni of Wilkes College ( PA) this horrific scene evoked an immediate flashback to 1972. During a Wilkes home game against Kings Point Academy ( coached by Joe Paterno’s brother George) we witnessed one of our classmates, Bobby McBride, a very talented and well liked DB be knocked unconscious while making a tackle. It became utterly SILENT in the stadium and Bobby’s mom’s anguished cries were the only sound you heard as Bobby was worked on. Bobby passed away the next day in the hospital. This has always been a violent game and these are moments that stay with you forever. Hoping with all my might that Damar’s outcome is a good one.

Reminded me of when Chuck Hughes, Detroit Lion, 28, died in the last minute of a televised game in 1971. Chuck collapsed in front of the Chicago Bears sideline and Dick Butkus frantically waved emergency personnel onto the field.

Hearing everything come out about this young man from my Hometown Pittsburgh PA where I still live is amazing. It so sad that it takes things like this to show that the vast majority of NFL players are great people off the field. I really hope that he can make it back from this and that his Family is doing OK right now. We will continue to show support for those close to him and pray he can recover fully but man is this eye opening. I saw Shazier go down in the same stadium but you could at at least see he was awake. This was extremely scary and troubling to watch.

All I kept thinking about was Ryan on that very same field. All the players were traumatized, but yes (though his first night was fraught with whether he would actually survive), we saw him alive and reacting. As someone who has experienced this with my own dad before my eyes, I am a bit messed up about this. It was like a deja vu at first for me personally, but also just thought about how young this player is - just a kid still really.

The real thing that bothers me, and please understand we don't know any of this is true, is the report that there was CPR for 9 minutes. Knowing what I do actually know, that could be catastrophic. Anything more than 3-4 minutes could cause irreparable neurological brain damage and trauma. I pray this is not true or that he can miraculously recover somehow from this.

They first sedated them in order to put the breathing tube in and then put him in a medically induced coma. I wouldn't just casually alarm people as you just did, but it is true that anything more than 4 minutes of CPR or loss of blood to the brain possibly results in irreparable neurological trauma/damage. I pray this is not true for Damar. He is 24 years old.

Shoulders, knees, necks, neurological damage. No one has to agree, but if we say next man up and 'let's play ball' when a young man is lying lifeless on the field all of us are right back in the Roman Colosseum and we've come full circle in 2000 years. What does that say about all of us?

I would hope that the NFL, and everybody associated with the Hamlin incident, are given access to hose involved with: A - Christian Erikson. During a UEFA Euro 2020 match on 12 June 2021, Eriksen collapsed on the pitch after suffering a cardiac arrest; he was given cardiopulmonary resuscitation and was later fitted with an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator, and returned to football eight months later, eventually playing with Manchester United. & B - Fabrice Muamba. In March 2012, Muamba suffered a cardiac arrest during a televised FA Cup match between Bolton and Tottenham Hotspur, from which he recovered despite his heart having stopped for 78 minutes. Following medical advice, he announced his retirement from professional football in August 2012. He later completed a degree in sports journalism before making a return to football as a youth coach. Yes it's a different sport but while a cardiac arrest is unprecedented during an NFL game, it isn't while competing in other sports. Those around, as well as Erikson and Muamba themselves, may have some useful insight. Also didn't Darren Williams of UNLV have something similar happen during a team workout three or so years ago? Again there may be useful experience to tap in to.

I think the best thing to do is for the NFL to cancel the game completely and declare a tie. It would be cruel to try and have them resume the game after what happened.
@jbjacobs9514
@jbjacobs9514 Жыл бұрын
A tie? What does that serve? A tie has ramifications. Obviously none of this is important right now but they should come up with something when the time is right. Week 18 should go on as regular and then they should figure out what to do with possibly moving back the wildcard a couple of days or a week. We have that buffer between the champ game and SB.

@@jbjacobs9514 IMO right now nothing matters except the survival and recovery of Damar Hamlin and the well being of his family. If anyone should decide whether or not the game should ever resume is the Bills and Bengals players. Right now they are distraught about what happened. Standings mean nothing at this point.

For me, I'm done I could care less about where my team is going to be placed, I could care less about the Superbowl, All I care about is this man going to live. If this young man dies over a football game, I will remember your words Dan.... Life Goes On. The football season is over for me, I refused to leave my humanity aside for a Football Game. How low is the bar for us as humans that we can pat ourselves on the back because we all decided maybe it's not okay to keep playing a football game? After all, Damar might die. Should we keep playing, maybe not it just might look bad. What is freaking wrong with us as fans as people?
