I tried Dymondia for years, but it always starts dying in patches come summer. I started planting Carpet of Stars instead and like it much better because of the darker green color and it looks better than Dymondia.

What state are you in?
@starcarpet2 ай бұрын
@@davidsalvador8989 There are some heat waves that have taken the best of it. We love Dymondia. Dwarf Carpet of Stars does work better for the hotter environments that have the occasional heat waves.

Im looking for a easy ground cover in the HOT heat ,,,, summers are about 100 for 2 months. ???

I like this but have had voles uproot it and it dies quickly once dried out.

Would you recommend this one over the dwarf carpet of stars in Northern AZ, zone 8-9?
@RootedTheory Жыл бұрын
Dwarf carpet is definitely hardier than Dymondia. It can take heat and drought better.

I use lite loamy soil, tilled in very well with the native soil to create a nice texture for drainage. Nutrient rich and well-drained is key.

Absolutely. Keeps a nice tidy look.

How do rid the clover growing in it?
@RootedTheory9 ай бұрын
Preen Pre emergent will greatly help reduce weed seeds from germinating. But you would have to hand pull the current weeds to get it back to neutral first.

Which is more heat tolerant Dymondia or Ruschia?
@RootedTheory Жыл бұрын
Definitely Ruschia. Dymondia is great, but doesn’t take the extreme heat like Ruschia.

In your opinion which ground cover would be better for a slope Dymondia or Rushcia Nana ?
@RootedTheory2 жыл бұрын
Probably Ruschia. It has a stronger root system than Dymondia.

Is this plant pet friendly? Is it safe for chickens? Will chickens try to destroy it? I would love to plant either this or Dwarf carpet of stars or maybe both and I would love to replace my boring white picket fence with privacy hedges.

I tried Creeping Thyme, but the rabbits ate it. I'm going to look for that Isotoma though.

I live in San Jose California were water is in short supply, so I planted Dymondia.The idea was good, but the results were not. You can not order Dymondia seed, it only comes in flats. I planted fist sized clumps about a foot apart and all looked great. The only problem was all the surrounding homes had dry and weed infested lawns due to water restrictions, This caused weeds in my new Dymondia lawn to grow faster then the Dymondia. I have not found a weed killer that will kill the weeds and not the Dymondia. If I could do it over again I would not plant Dymondia.
@RootedTheory Жыл бұрын
Weeds are definitely the tricky bit.. especially when plugs are establishing. Use of a good pre-emergent is an absolute necessity. I like Ronstar or Dimension. Preen is ok also and is the most widely available.

@@RootedTheory Thank you for this. I have the same problem. I am planting an area where Alyssum has been allowed to run wild. Is it okay to use Preen around just planted Dymondia? Thanks for this great video. It's been very helpful.

I am thinking of using dymondia in between stepping stones with Kurapia where I now have failing dichondra. (Had a gopher, and ever since can’t get the dichondra to fill in) I want an area where my grandkids can play on a soft surface. Will that combo work? Afternoon SW Sun, partially shaded. .

Gotcha. Sounds like this could work! Are you in zone 9-11?

Are these in stock again? Also, are these soft enough to be trimmed with a wire edger?
They don’t generally like to set it but will punch holes up through it if it’s in their way.

If you want to have a Dymondia lawn you also better have some money. 25-40 bucks per flat. Also get ready to do some weeding.

The question I have is how to completely get rid of the existing grass. Grrrr...
@RootedTheory2 жыл бұрын
A couple methods…solarization is a non-chemical method but takes several months. Some folks use herbicide which kills it in a week. It ultimately depends on how eco conscious you want to be.
