I'm more perturbed about the framing of Chris' head for tight shots. His eyes being placed half way up the frame drives me nuts. Are you afraid of cutting off his crafted/curated hair tooft? It is lovely, but we get plenty of opportunities to see it in other shots. When his eyes are at the 50% mark, I always feel like he is fighting to keep his head just barely above water. Please don't drown Chris. Save his life, not his hairline.

Hello there. Thanks for all your learnings. I am looking into a gfx 100 ii. I take portraits but also I do alot of walking around photography. Name it street.. I am aware of some of the fuji gfx lens not being very fast with afc. But do you think that this 50mm being a linear motor focusing system can keep up well with the gfx 100 ii for street? Would you say it is quite fast?? Thanks from Spain.

$400 used for a "short stack 'o pancakes", absolutely worth it. 50 on 50. GFX is in a good spot right now. 50Sii with the 35-70 and a 50mm prime for barely 2k used. So worth it.

I can't help but feel that Fuji could do with bringing out a GF prime in the 26-30mm range to offer something equivalent to a 21-24mm. There is currently a considerable jump between 23mm & 45mm GF lenses (18mm & 35mm equivalent). Also, I just wish they had fitted the 50r with the dual axis tilt LCD....

I have got a "silly" question perhaps : why there is no "usual lend hood" included in the box? Can you attach a hood to it anyway?

You can't, since it doesn't have the necessary grooves on the outside. I do like the screw-in hood that comes with it - unusual, yes, but it's small and gets the job done all the same.

I have a rangefinder and a pair of medium format film cameras where the fixed lens or included lens is roughly equivalent to this 50mm f/3.5. I like the field of view because it's a happy middle ground between a wider normal (35mm for full frame or 45mm on GFX) and the de facto normal (50mm for full frame or 63mm on GFX). I have taken plenty of waist-and-up portraits and environmental portraits with this FOV, so it's all relative as to whether anyone claims this 50mm f/3.5 is good or bad for portraits.

Great review! So, if you had the 110mm and the 32-64mm would you think the 50mm is a good addition? The 110 and 32-64 are so bulky, and the 50mm seems like a nice way of cutting down space in a lot of cases. Or, would you recommend the 63mm over the 50mm as a better supplement to these other lenses?

I have the new 50S II, and its kit (35-70) lens. Want to get a prime, or--would use one of my Canon EF lenses IF there was a good adapter (risking vignetting unless using the camera's "35mm format" mode, which crops the sensor to a 35mm equiv. But adapters...I had one (Viltrox) and sent it back. I read reviews of the Metabones (don't get the 1.26x magnifying adapter--why put crap lenses between your good glass and the camera?). I wish Novoflex would make one but they told me they have no plans to do that. Given all that--a test of SOME adapter with SOME non-Fujinon lenses would be a cool video.

It is time to make fast GF lenses dear Fuji!
@peterhelm5224 жыл бұрын
The 110 f2 for example is so fast, that I have to decide in close up portraits if the eye lashes are sharp or the iris. Due to sensor format I have to step down to f4 for close up portraits. Due to higher minimum apertures of larger formats , with same DOF as FF, the IQ can be better, because lens design is simpler.
@eagleeyephoto87153 жыл бұрын
Fujifilm 80 f1.7 and 100 f2 is pretty fast on the GFX. I see no point of going faster ,otherwise you can throw the lens put of focus since the face will be half blurry when you shoot at f1.7 or f2.

I don’t understand who people think 40mm is closer to the perspective of the human eye than 50mm. There’s clearly more separation. I’d say perspective wise the best we can get is 35mm 2x anamorphic on a super 35 frame size.

40mm f1.7 was a classic fixed lens for old film rangefinder cameras. A great splitting of the difference between the 35mm vs 50mm controversy for street photography. 40mm however is not closer to “normal.” Normal describes a lens with a similar perspective (foreground to background apparent object separation) of the human eye. In FF “normal” is more like 52mm. Since a 50 is a 50 is a 50 regardless of the sensor size, with this lens you’ll be getting that “normal” perspective (sometimes referred to as the “medium format look”) as your eye sees things but with a wider angle of view than on a FF 50mm and of course much wider than a crop 50mm. My own preference on street photography is to “document” and to do that to get the perspective as close to the real thing as possible so I’m liking the idea of this lens, although not at $9999USD.
@pascalbarreiro3 жыл бұрын
I thought it was 43mm. Could you please explain?
@Thomas_Geist3 жыл бұрын
@@pascalbarreiro That doesn’t matter. From what I’ve learned over many years, “normal,” is actually 52mm on a FF camera. That you thought it was 43mm I can’t explain. In fact, around 52mm is “normal” on any camera regardless of the film or sensor size. I think I’ve already explained that part. Sorry micro 4/3 people. Just the way it is. “Normal,” has NOTHING to do with angle of view, but rather perspective, ie., the relative apparent size and distance between objects. PERIOD. This is the most misunderstood and misrepresented concept in photography.
