I do love an aperture ring ! I will like Fuji to make more compact and light Lenses, most of the GF line are too big and too heavy, take a look a the new Hasselblad XCD Lenses which both are compact and light weight though they have a leaf shutter ! I really do not know if I am to get the 45mm or the 50mm, I am very tempted by the 50mm because it is the most compact and light weight GF Lens and very close to a full frame (FF) 35mm Lens ! GF 50mm diagonal equivalent to 39mm, vertical eq. to 33mm, horisontal eq. to 40.9mm, I thin the vertical angle is the most important ! The GF 45mm diagonal is eq. to 35.1mm, vertical to 36mm and horisontal to 36.8mm. I would NEVER use a Lens like the GF 35mm for close-up portraits !

A very nice lens indeed! In my metier, blowing out the background for the sake of blowing out the background is so predictable. Where I reside, it is all about the story the styling and the settings.. There is a reason one choses a tool. You choose the tool after establishing the story board. You don't chose a focal length for a feature film, you create a screen play and chose the tools to accomplish your goals. Most photographers are too hung up on the gear and not the photography.

Im moving into the gfx100ii system and am really looking into the 45mm. Or the 32-64 mainly for versatility but like the 45 bc of size and 2.8. I shoot more environmental photos and like to not always blow out the background. I like the af speed of the 32-64. Is the af still solid on the 45? I want to either do the 32-64 and the 110. Or 45mm and 80mm. Not sure
@KevinDeal15 күн бұрын
AF speed is about the same. It’s a little slower on the 80 due to the larger size. I went the 110 and 45 route. Of course you can choose to shoot stopped down whenever you want but if you do find yourself needing isolation, the 45 gets you more.

I will eventually buy the 100S II. But I am currently working on fine tuning my Canon rig, and that's taking up time and money. My guess is there will be a price drop around Black Friday. Fuji regularly does rebates and I'll hold out for that. Thank you for the kind compliments!

It took a long time to settle on the gf45 but I love this lens. The colours are incredible and it’s just so reliable. There are no issues using it and for those whinging reviews out there that complain about it I’ve really no idea what they’re talking about. I use it with a 50s ii - a 100 ii is beyond me. And I’m very happy with the results no have a bunch of vintage lenses but I’m realising I like the gf45 more. Just need to pick one more longer gf lens to partner with it for my ultimate 2 lens kit - I’m thinking it will be either the 63 or amazing 110. Any thoughts? I can’t buy both.
@KevinDeal5 күн бұрын
I wonder why people who reviewed it hated it. It's my favorite lens TBH. I did the trio of the 45, 63 and 110. I personally would get the 110 next as the 45 and 63 are close-ish in focal length. Not super close, but close enough. The difference between the 45 and 110 will be obvious and give you more versatility in my opinion. Happy shooting!

Hello Kevin 👋, I have a question and I would like your advice. I want to buy the 45 mm, but I don't know whether to buy the 45 mm fixed or the 45 - 100 mm. Which one would you recommend?
@KevinDeal5 ай бұрын
It depends on what you shoot. Both lenses are sharp, but the 45mm is a little sharper, more shallow and lets in more light. That being said, the 45-100 is also quite sharp and it obviously gives you a VERY useful focal range. Size is a consideration. Shooting the 45mm will make you feel like you're shooting on a full frame camera. If you shoot on the 45-100, you definitely are going to feel like you're shooting on a larger medium format camera. Depends on what is important to you.

I did try this 45/2.8 against my Sigma 40/1.4 and did not find any relevant reason why not to keep the Sigma (body is 100S II). Not only because the full two stops wider aperture but mainly because the rendering of the Sigma is just superb and 45/2.8 did not bring anything the Sigma would not have. The 3D pop when shooting full body environmental portraits at f/1.4 is phenomenal!

The 35-70 is the one lens that focuses really close. At around 35cm it is better than almost all of the primes. The only downside of that lens is that close focus at the 70mm end of the lens and wide open aperture produces rather soft images. But anything up to 63mm is perfect. Did you ever use the ‘kit-lens’ Kevin? It is lighter and smaller than the 45mm and more versatile. Of course it doesn’t open up to 2.8

Maybe. The wider you go, the less impact a shallow depth of field has. And, if I buy a lens for story telling, a blurry background is a blurry story. Not really why I bought this lens. And then to add $1000+ and a full pound (to me) doesn't add much at all. For people who want to isolate, I can see it being cool.
