@@jayonair I think A73 kind of took over the A7S.. And since 1080p is kind of yesteryear, it makes very little sense to come out with a small mp multipurpose camera. The only technical advantage the A7S2 had was the smaller MP sensor, which gave the chip headroom for more processing, but the new CPU has power enough to do the same on the 24mp sensor in the a73, they could keep the 12mp sensor and have even more headroom, but for what? Until they figure out what to use the extra power for, it makes no sense to do that. Perhaps if they made a 16 bit full color sensor it would make sense but that would kick the price out of the normal consumer ballpark for now. But you never know ;)

You need to buy the S1, the firmware update (only available for the S1), an external recorder, storage media, and an HDMI cable and mounting system to get to 4K60 10-bit 4:2:2. As far as that high output spec in the S1H, it's achieved by cropping to near APS-C size. In that respect, you're better off buying a Fuji X-T3, which can record 4K60 10-bit 4:2:0 at 400mbps. You talk about this approaching 'medium format quality'. For me the 'medium format quality' is not about megapixels, it's about the effect a physically large sensor has on depth of focus. I'm not talking about how narrow the DOF can be (too narrow to be useful with any wide MF lens), but the quality of the transition. Pictures taken on physically large sensors/bits of film look different. All the pixels and shifting you throw at a small sensor isn't going to reproduce that.
@BlueBomberTurbo5 жыл бұрын
It has to do more with the projection of the MF lens and the resulting compression than anything. The larger image circle is what creates this effect, not what the image is captured on. Drop a MF to FF focal reducer onto this camera with a good MF lens, and you'll get much of that MF look.

So video features aren't appealing, bad implementation of touchscreen, awful rolling shutter, super35 mode is not actually... super35, pixel shift mode implementation is bad compared to Olympus... No reduced RAW photo capture (like in other cameras when you don't need full res RAW files...) And still no tilting-rotating screen like the a77II/a99II/a77/a99 or flipping screen like most Canon or Panasonic cameras... Unless 60Mpx is required by the photog, this seems like the camera to skip and wait for the Mk.V or get the Mk.III at a better price. I still wonder why Sony isn't releasing the a7S III...

“Pixel shift 200mp bigger than MF” 🙈😁😂 you have to take 16 pictures! With MF you take 3 and do some stitching, and get 260mp ore more with the 150mp Phase One, and there you have the lenses for it too.. And you know you have it in camera...
@BlueBomberTurbo5 жыл бұрын
Stitch as many MF pics as you want, and you still won't get the level of pixel quality that's produced from Sony's implementation of pixel shift. It makes the output quality equal to that of a Foveon sensor, without the low DR or high noise. You get full RGB data in every single pixel, which significantly increases color detail and perceived sharpness. No interpolation of pixels like Bayer. Not to mention, Sony added a second mode this time around, which incorporates both full RGB data AND super resolution.

"greater than medium format quailty" - wrong. Medium format quality is not about extra resolution.
@Rationalific5 жыл бұрын
I agree. But at the same time, I don't agree. I agree because obviously, medium format sensors are larger. I don't agree because the main benefit of the larger sensor is actually packing in more megapixels. As for letting light in, medium format camera lenses do not go up (down?) to f-numbers that full-frame reaches, so medium format cameras actually do not offer shallower depth of field or let in more light in general. So without higher resolution, there is not really any major benefit to medium format.
@Innovate-pq9ci5 жыл бұрын
@@Rationalific I don't see how you can agree and disagree, it's about facts only. A larger sensor will generally perform better and give you better quality pictures. Same logic applies to MF vs FF, and FF vs APS-C. The main benefit being megapixels is wrong, this is your conclusion only. Manufacturers know that some pro photographers also need high dynamic range, noise performance etc. Amateur/tourist photographers who do not know anything might decide on megapixels only, like smartphone buyers for example. When it comes to shallow depth of field, it's similar, usually a concern for amateur or tourist photographers who just think the blurrier the more professional it looks. Please let me know which pro photographer shoots at f1.2 and thinks it's still too limiting.
@Rationalific5 жыл бұрын
@@Innovate-pq9ci I can easily both agree and disagree, because you are neither totally wrong nor totally right. You can say, "Schindler's List the film was not about money." On the one hand, it was not trying to be a blockbuster, and it was talking about a serious issue and tragedy. On the other hand, it is a movie and box office returns matter. So I can easily agree and disagree. That means, "You have a point, but you don't have the whole story." "Please let me know which pro photographer shoots at f1.2 and thinks it's still too limiting." That's my point. Let's take a Canon 50mm f/1.2. A medium format equivalent would be a 63mm f/1.5. The best, say, the Fuji GFX 100 would have is a 63mm f/2.8. (That's the equivalent of a full-frame 50mm f/2.2.) Hasselblad and Pentax are in a similar situation. So it should be obvious that you are taking a hit in light if you go medium format, because, simply put, the equivalent lenses don't exist. The same would be true of full-frame cameras if, say, APS-C had f/1.2 lenses but FF only had f/2.8 lenses. (FF requires an f/1.8 to equal an APS-C f/1.2.) Then, I would be singing the praises of APS-C cameras. The difference is that FF has lenses with f-numbers that go down as low as APS-C cameras, whereas medium format cameras don't have lenses with f-numbers that go down as low as FF cameras.
@Innovate-pq9ci5 жыл бұрын
Rationalific lower f-stops doesn't mean more light. Light gathering is measured by t-stops. If you compare the actual light gathering and test it you'd be surprised to find these low aperture lenses are not that bright
@Rationalific5 жыл бұрын
@@Innovate-pq9ci t-stops are basically f-stops, only with the number a bit higher to take into account light fall off on the glass. Unless it's a special lens (like with an ND filter), you will NEVER get a 1.2 f-stop lens that has a 2.2 t-stop. If anything, a 1.2 f-stop would have a 1.4 t-stop or something similar. That is not even to mention the fact that physics works for medium format lenses as well, so their t-stops are higher than their f-stops as well. In the end, the widest aperture medium format lenses do not gather more light than the widest aperture FF lenses.

Whilst the A7R isn't a product that I am considering, the general impression from this MkIV version is that Sony have deliberately dialled back on its development in order to safeguard the sales of another product yet to come. From a business point of view, I get the strategy and that's up to them. I suppose we'll have to wait for the ever elusive A7s III (or whatever it may now be called) to see if that is the case or not. Whilst I am a Sony user and generally like their products, they have a tendency to always leave a bitter taste in the mouth and leave me feeling like they've insulted the intelligence of their customers. It's just a feeling - not fact, but nevertheless a fact that I tend to feel that way. That said, the new KM3 XLR microphone adapter looks good, but I wonder why they haven't included a headphone jack for those cameras that they have omitted a headphone jack on.

A novel take for a camera that has a 61 megapixel sensor with 15 stops of DR at the pixel level with a 68 shot buffer for RAW. The AF is vastly improved over the A7rIII. I think it's cute that people would consider this update somehow gimped. Does it have 10 bit raw? No. Does it get continuous real time tracking with eye autofocus in video? Yes. Crazy world where an updated camera with nearly 50% more megapixels, improved ergonomics, better EVF, upgraded storage (dual UHS-II) and connectivity (USB 3.2 GEN 1 vs USB 2 and WiFi AC with wireless tethering) is somehow considered a gimped update.

No CFAST options. hasselblad has an amazing layout & the interfaces on the black magic are insanely good. it seems that Sony are only willing to innovate technically in a very narrow band ie sensor & AF. yeh sure the small body is great achievement, but pair it with an f2.8 zoom and its not so important. with 60+mp anything under 1/1000sec is not going to be tack sharp. what's happening with workflow innovations? real time tethering over WiFi to a laptop or tablet would be awesome. supporting mirrcast. & the fact that after 9-12 months Sony will stop brining out firmware updates and don't expect any new features like you might get with a Fugi camera system.
