They had it on the A77ii and the A99ii, the first of which was released more than 7 years ago, the only difference seems to be that the hinge was underneath instead of on the outside, so the screen stayed behind the camera. I use the A1, which also has video "issues" at full-frame. Its 8K mode is terrific with no significant rolling shutter thanks to the stacked sensor, but the 4K FF modes are horrible. I therefore shoot much of my video in S35, and I added a 10-20 F/4 PZ G to my kit for wide shots. It's an optically solid little lens, and I imagine that it would also be an excellent option for A7RV users that want to shoot wide-angle video. I applaud Sony for addressing most of the A7RIV issues and make a good camera even better, despite the hefty price tag. It also leaves me wondering how great the S1/S1R/S1H could be if only Panasonic had the clarity of mind to add phase detect… Almost all the great things we like in the A7RV were already addressed in 2019 by Panasonic in an even sturdier package with better handling and better color management. If only the AF-C and tracking…
@nomad07142 жыл бұрын
@Jacob, I had the S1H and sold it to a friend for the same reason you mentioned. If you look at all the companies that died or dying like Nokia, Yahoo, AOL, HP, Xerox, RIMM or Blackberry, etc etc, they all had one common denominator, stubborn to a fault. And didn’t focused on staying relevant but focused on a strong belief of being right and therefore stubborn until being obsolete. I loved the colors of Pana even more than Canon and all the tech and video assist tools but the af system was tough to deal with as a one man crew. Sure all the manual focus guys would hang their hat on that real cinema cams uses manual but out of context when you have focus pullers and a big crew and budget. It reminds of the grandparents giving history lessons of walking 10mi+ in snow and even with cars we should walk. Yeah sure! Embrace competition as if you don’t, they have no problem taking your customers away and customers who are discerning, will make the choice that’s best for them. Good to see Sony and Canon duking it out and now Nikon is catching up. Hope Pana gets pass this hump and concede to the hybrid af system that all 3 players have shifted too

I felt Panasonic presented a strong entry into full frame mirrorless. AF was a big issue from the get-go and everyone knew this and as far as I can tell, was willing to give Panasonic a chance if they made an attempt to integrate phase detect AF in future iterations of the S-series. But they stated they had no plans to do so. Seeing this, and seeing how important AF would be in high performance, low-man environments, myself and many others sold our S cameras and jumped ship. It was a painful financial choice to let go of such a promising system. But I feel I'm in a much better place with the Sony system.

Focus stacking and the multi-axis screen are huge in terms of actual usage and enjoyment of shooting with the camera. They might seem trivial things compared to the autofocus and resolution. Seriously, and this might sound bizarre, if the A7RV had had a normal swivel screen like the A7IV I would not be saving like mad for it.

I've had the a7R III and the a6 series since 2017 since 2019 and it's been in constant use, but I can't say that I've really enjoyed using it. Produced great results but definitely wasn't enjoyable throughout. Still, can't really beat Sony for bang for the buck, especially if you use third-party lenses. Been following their releases to see what's been improved with each generation and the A1 had me hopeful but cautious (given that it's a halo product). Looks like this addressed the major pain points (poor responsiveness, poor back LCD resolution, tilt-only back LCD, no lossless compressed, uneven SD card slots, awful menus, button and dial issues, etc). Wish it hadn't taken them so long, but looks like they've finally fixed those long-time issues. Looking forward to purchasing this on the used market once prices go down.

I agree that the new multi-angle/position flip-out screen would also have been very nice to have had on the FX30 also. Perhaps Sony's thinking that was video/cinematographers will add a monitor anyway and decided to keep the cost down by using a simpler version. If that were the case, I do wish that Sony would realise that we use a second monitor because the ones on Sony cameras are low in resolution and/or too small to get critical focus when using manual focus. I would much prefer to see a decent monitor on the camera itself than having to add a second monitor that is cumbersome, adds weight and is a faff regardless of how small or wonderful they may be! I do appreciate that the monitor size is camera size dependent.

Did Jordan mentioned the 4K 60p with full sensor capability? I don't remember he mentioned anything 4K 60p.

Thank you for this super good walkthrough! Shopping for a Canon R5 replacement and though this one seems nice it doesn’t match the video capabilities on the R5 😊

I'm having a hard time justifying the 5 over the 4 I currently have. I think I'll wait for a A9iii and see how that turns out. I'm not on the plan to upgrade yet, that is coming in a year or maybe 2 depending on the camera rumor mill.

It might not be worth it to upgrade from 4 to 5. I'm also waiting for the A9III. I guess it will have a 33MP stacked sensor with the same AI chip as the A7RV, but 20FPS and faster readout.

Does it have slow motion 120fps in 4k?

What is with that screen? That's amazing 🤩.

So iso 40'000 (for Monochrome A2 Fine Art Prints) and silent shooting (and and for anti-banding lighzs) photos the A1 would still be better ?

This may be an evolution of the iv, but it seems like a damn good evolution. Some of the issues like the screen tilt or painful menu design weren't directly related to camera quality, but they definitely mattered for actually using the thing.

I had the A7 and A7r2, and still use the A7r3, having skipped the A7r4, but there is not a lot to tempt me to make the jump to the A7r5, even though I mostly shoot stills. For daily photography A7r5 is just too much camera, and I use my Sony RX1R and Ricoh GRs instead. For portraits and most landscape, I find the sensor and resolution of the A7R3 to be more than adequate for 99% of my needs. Just my two cents. I am a long-time photographer and still think my Nikon d850 is the best overall camera to date, notwithstanding the relative benefits of mirrorless tech.

I love the flip out screen. For now I'll stick with my A7R4, especially since spouse bought me a new iPhone 14 Pro. Seeing the need for a camera less and less. Though, I confess, I do love my three Sony G Master lenses. Well, someday I'll upgrade.

I really like to know the readout speed and blackout about this camera

Does anybody know if the new focus stacking features will become available on older models such as the A7 R4(A)?

Nice video guys, thanks! After talking about the high res mode I was expecting to see that background man smoothed out? A smoother sound mix and I'm a fan of the end music fade-up. (funny reverb on the bench shot?)

I’m a still photographer that does single human model click, from the a7rIV this doesn’t feel like the upgrade at all. Same picture quality, more pixels would have been easier choice. Right now, I feel like I need a medium format camera from sony or I may have to switch if Sony is maxed out here. Thanks for not a being a complete chill & completely selling out to a brand.

When are we going to see these features on the Alpha 1 - via firmware update?

I am curious if you have tried mounting the camera on a tripod and taking portraits using the new pixel shift technology-

Nice video. Just a small note: your photo of a "bee" is actually showing a hoverfly. ;)

❤ the tilt screen, but otherwise hard to get excited about. Pretty sure $AUD will be eye-watering ☹️
