Thanks, I just picked up a 1999 DR350 that has been setting in a barn for 10 plus years. I just took the carburetor apart and was by far the worst I've ever seen as far as varnish. Mine didn't come apart as easily as yours. Now I'm trying to get the field tank cleaned out.

well hot dog. carb clean, new gas and presto :) I hope I'm as lucky with mine! Going to be doing same today. Plan on making a video of at least part of it. Also going to do a quick spark test. I'm a bit worried that the previous owner took off the side cover to the airbox, so I might not be jetted 100% to match airflow, but one thing at a time. Maybe I just need to buy a new airbox cover, or 3D print one?

So update on my dr350, got it running and drove around town a few times but both times I took it to work I was 20 minutes in the parking garage trying to get it started again. I suspect my poor quality battery is somehow dragging my ignition system down but I'm not quite sure because I've even tried jump starting it to the car while kick-starting it and it still doesn't want to seem to idle right. Been through the carb several times and put a new plug-in fresh oil in so unless it's a compression or ignition problem or maybe a simple tuning problem I'm just almost out of ideas. The other week I tried several combinations of idle speed and fuel mixture ratio but still couldn't get the damn thing to pop over more than a few times. One thing I noticed is what when I bought the bike it had a top end with a valve cover and inside you could see the valve seats at just been torn to freaking shreds, probably from breaking a valve or something, so I'm hoping that the idiot kid that had it before me didn't do something stupid like breaker valve and then not replace the Piston because he didn't feel like tearing apart the engine that far.

LA Prepper hmmm that’s not good that it’s let you down at work ,maybe it has an air leak somewhere,try spraying wd40 around the carby when it’s running and if it stops when you spray it’s sucking air

I took carb off it was filthy, then replaced Fuel Petcock, im having a really hard time getting carb squeezed back into aircleaner tube.

Very good video. I have the same carb, my bike was running fine then carb suddenly started overflowing. I suspect float valve is not seating properly. I have ordered a carb rebuild kit. Fuel was coming out float bowl drain even though screw was tight. I think fuel must be getting higher than tube inside float bowl. Do you have any recommendations? Cheers
@The_farm_mechanics5 ай бұрын
Nah mate your on the right track ,maybe just check your float level ,but I would say the float valve has some junk behind it or the tip has worn out
@TWOWHEELFIX5 ай бұрын
Yes, the needle wasn't seating properly. After I fitted rebuild kit it's running great. Cheers

Hi great video. Is that a pumper carb? I have the same bike and carb but wanted to know about cleaning with a pumper mechanism goes in the bottom of the bowl. I thought I read that someone said there's a one-way valve or something crazy in there I just sprayed cleaner in both holes and hope for the best and wonder if you have to clean out the brass dick ..pumper..that shoots out the gas into the carb
@MustangNthusiest5 жыл бұрын
Just watched video, Do you recommend the rebuild kits they sell on Amazon? My 92 DR350 isn't getting fuel even with choke pulled out. I squirt fuel into spark plug hole and she starts first kick.
@The_farm_mechanics5 жыл бұрын
MustangNthusiast I’d check your valve clearance aswell ,but yeah definitely get a rebuild kit they save so much time

So I'm like 95% sure I don't have the stock carb for my bike...

There are 2 models of carb. One is mechanical and one is CV :)

It would have been nice if you didn't start it before you recorded the video, i mean i waited for this for the whole damn time and it just started at the first kick....

Ok. I cleaned carb, got it installed, but bike won't start. If I squirt fuel into cylinder and reinstall sparkplug it fires right up after first kick and stays running. It's like the choke isn't working or if won't get gas. Got any ideas?
@The_farm_mechanics5 жыл бұрын
MustangNthusiast yeah I’d say your starter jet passageway is blocked ,have you checked the valve clearances by any chance ? Maybe try removing the choke plunger to check the prongs are ok aswell

Mate, drag yourself into the 21st century and get yourself an ultrasonic cleaner

jim bob hahahahahaha I love when ppl think they work it’s not jewellery it’s a carb ,the other mechanic at work has one runs a carb through then pulls it out and still cleans it the same as I do ,I just try and make money and they just cost you in labour doing the job twice is never any good I’ve been in this industry since I was 14 I know what works ,cheers for the input though

@@The_farm_mechanics They do work if you use the correct cleaning solution and a quality machine. I've used them for over ten years on motorcycle,atv and garden machinery and wouldn't be without one now. I've converted an older (old school) employee in my workshop who swore that carb cleaner and compressed air was the only way. He was going to junk a chainsaw carb after cleaning it unsuccessfully his way until I "persuaded" him to use the ultrasonic. It did the job and he uses it all the time now.
@The_farm_mechanics5 жыл бұрын
jim bob ahh yeah that’s great happy they work for you ,I’ve yet to have a carb I couldn’t clean the old school way ,but if you want to send a list to me of the cleaning solution and cleaner you use happy to do a video on it

@@The_farm_mechanics Hello again , the cleaner I use is around 22 litres capacity, I can't remember the make as the ID plate is worn off in places but it was made in Germany. I bought it at an auction of ex medical equipment as I wanted a good machine after mixed results with stuff from the "far east". I use a specific cleaner from Allendale ultrasonics. I can't get a bank of four carbs in my cleaner but a friend who has a precision engineering business has a large industrial cleaner and helps out with this. One thing I would say (and you'll probably call it double work) it's worth giving whatever your cleaning a bit of a clean in carb cleaner (or fuel) before using the ultrasonic as you'll get more uses out of the solution before it becomes contaminated.
