I do the cash stuffing, but electronically. I realized my credit Union lets me open as many savings accounts as I like and give them nicknames. After spending using the credit card (and getting the rewards) I’ll just pay that amount out of the appropriate account.

I wonder if the number comes down in your 40s a bit because people anticipate their kids will be out of the house at some point and they won’t need as much. 50s is probably a combination of realizing you might be supporting them for longer than you think, and seeing retirement coming around the corner.
