Absolutely one of the MOST Important Thinkers ever for our People. Asante Dr. Amos N. Wilson! "I apologize for the lengthy answer, but the opportunity..." LOL!! Teach Dr teach. What an excellent analogy to describe a problem and solution method.

Also too, this is what happens when we let another people determine our reality and then some of us got the nerve to complain about our situation.

At 8:09 Dr. Wilson says "you must first develop a theory of learning". He directs this to people engaged in African centered education. Is this advice, itself, African based? He talked about us coming from an oral culture. But, Afrocentric teaching, points to Kemet as the foundation of African culture. They tie the people of West Africa to Kemet, and say there was a migration out of Kemet westward. Kemet was a culture that was steeped in writing, so why is the oral given much more prominence than the scriptural? All these scholars had to master scriptural based learning. This learning, is based in all that Amos says, works against us, but does it really work against us, or to the extent they say it does? He talked about people who don't know their history. How much history must a person know? The average American knows little of their history or culture, nor have mush interest in it. The little history that is valued by White Americans seems to me, to be the history of wars, warfare, and weapons, and those with this interest are still a minority. The average American lives in the here and now. That is the nature of modernity and pop/youth culture that makes up the society we live in. I can't see how effective treating an illness within the conditions, that cause the illness, can heal that person. How have people like Wilson, been able to do what he do/did with their lives? Does the level of narcissism among Black people, suggest that we lack egos? Hip-Hop is all about egotism, or is the egotism we exhibit, really overcompensation for a damaged ego? Is this prescription or healing method, that Wilson employs African based? Did he employ it on himself? Wilson certainly speaks clearly to our situation, and in detail. But what he says is not new to most people, much of what he says has been said by others. That is why you get so many amen like responses from his audience. It is simply facts, we've all known. So in essence we have failed ourselves once again, by not applying the understanding what we do have. A long term plan may never have been developed and worked on, because we have no short term plan either. Wilson may have made this point also. It is said information is power, but it is power only, in possession of those who have the power to put it to use. We have power, but are selective in using it. We have no problem in expecting/asking our children to make an extra effort, in the areas of athletics and entertainment, but we too often, don't demand the same of them, in general education, and in their overall approach to life. We have used what history and analysis of our situation and condition, to lower our expectations even further, and take the attitude that to be critical of ourselves, is to blame the victim. Where is the evidence of short term plans, that insure that we will able to reap the fruits of a long term plan? Where is the evidence, that we have used the knowledge, we have gained over the years, and made gains from it. Should there be an assessment of our progress? Shouldn't there be stated goals at the beginning of each year - followed by a year-end report? If our problem is system and structural in nature, can our response to it, be anything less than highly coordinated? How can we achieve this coordination? Where is the plan for that? What is our vehicle to communicate, with all of us simultaneously? We have all this power of communication available to us. When will we exercise our collective will, to put it to work for us, in a well thought out manner?

Dr. Wilson has given us a framework on which to develop an African-centered curriculum. We have to fill in the blanks. One thing that Brother Steve Cokely taught me is that behavior is an indicator of the knowledge. In other words, I know you know when I see you do. Also, people learn through repetition. People have to be exposed to a particular thing enough times in order for them to eventually take action. Plus, no two people have the same learning styles. For me, simulation works best because I retain a significant portion of the knowledge because I simulated the application and execution of the knowledge. Professor Manu Ampim recommends this style over the lecture model. Dr. Wilson was one of our greatest thought leaders. He gave us the conceptual framework. Now, it's our job to convert the concept and make it operational. Nothing is ever handed to us. We have to go through the process to do it, be it individually or as a collective. Chancellor Williams had little help in writing THE DESTRUCTION OF BLACK CIVILIZATION. In fact, he mortgaged his house to get the book published before it was picked up by Third World Press. And, he was losing his eyesight in the process. So, we have NO excuse.

@@chrisjohnson4039 The best evidence of its operational-ness, would be, in the form of functional communities. Those among us who believe this is the answer/the way to go, IMO, must establish concrete communities, that would foster and sustain this new approach. The influences of the dominate culture, is likely too great to overcome, and therefore has stifled/hindered/prevented its success, lacking the needed great deal of isolation/insulation. If it presently has impacted significant numbers of lives, it can not be detected, in such a scattered nature/state. Besides that the greatest success must be seen, in those among us, who live the least optimum lives. It is the chain being, only as strong as its weakest link, principle. We may in fact be better off than appears, and it appears this way because we lack control, over a very small segment of us, who do damage disproportionate to their numbers. This is the problem of a lack of governance structure among us. That is another reason why the fractions among us who say their way is the best for all of us, have to create their own communities. We as a group can't agree on the most basic of values. It is very hard to establish a sense of community, when that level of disagreement exist.
