Darshan or "sighting" of the great Master C. G. Jung IN COLOR -- who speaks wonderful English (even pronouncing his name correctly, as most people don't) -- at his retreat center at Bollingen at Lake Zurich (which he built by hand and which has no electricity) with his ladies (gopis) creatively carving lithic sayings of Wisdom into limestone to preserve for posterity; how wonderful to see the old B&W photos of my CG Jung book collections come alive as he celebrates 75 years... you can sense his humor and love of life gleaming through his eyes and rising with the smoke from his well-stoked pipe, as thoughts arising from the collective unconscious to awaken us to higher heights of insights and beauty -- marvelous! Thank you for posting-- what a brilliant mind and heart!

Bollingen is in the mountains and his retreat there had no electricity. His main family home remains in Küsnacht on the edge of Zürich See. It is rather grand.

What a treasure! Thank you for posting. Fascinating to see Emma Jung, Jung's wife, Toni Wolff, Jung's lover and spiritual companion, Marie Jeanne Schmid, Jung's secretary for over 20 years, before Aniela Jaffé, and Olga Fröbe-Kapteyn, who founded the Eranos conferences. It's also such a vast relief to see people without mobile phones!

The younger woman with Jung, always smoking, is Marie Jeanne Schmid. Schmid was the daughter of Jung's friend Hans Schmid, who died in 1932. Marie Jeanne Schmid was Jung's secretary for over 20 years, and a very good friend. Thus in this film you see her at Jung's side, shuffling letters and papers, getting books, and eating dinner with Dr. and Mrs. Jung. Around 1953 Marie Jeanne Schmid married, and retired from working for Jung. This was quite a disaster for Jung, until he eventually found the help of Aniela Jaffe, who served as his secretary up until his death in 1951. It was in 1957 that Jaffe conducted the interviews with Jung which were edited into his memoir "Memories, Dreams, Reflections." Segments of this film were shot between about 1945 and 1951. -- Lance Owens

Dear Alper, wherever you found this treasure, thank you for sharing it. Last year I was very lucky to have been invited to visit the Tower in Bollingen. It is a magic place full of peace and power. Dear Lukas, I am forever thankful that you gave me the opportunity to embrace the heritage of your great grandfather Carl Gustav Jung.

Thank you very much for your kind words. I came upon some hints mentioning a short documentary shot in Bollingen, while doing research for a conference talk I was preparing on alchemy and symbolism. I have found and downloaded the raw video file on an obscure web site containing works of Jerome Hill. I decided to share this significant and short but profound documentary with the world on KZbin. I am glad I did this, because I believe this web site is not maintained anymore. I have not bookmarked it then and I cannot find the source file now when I search the web.

Oh to have lived in that better time and place. What a wonderful home on the water he built for himself. This reminds me so much of my childhood which had to do with water much of the time. Water was everything for me. To fish and hike up unknown streams to find an unknown treasure. I thought I would always have that in my life. Well someone had it at least and right to the end. I would sure like to have had a talk with the great man. I have one or two questions that I could use his insight into. He was very much onto something knowing the back side of God there be monsters. This is why many might be in for a shock when they die and find the afterlife is very much more complex than they thought. There is bliss but also hell to deal with and no one gets only one of them no matter what our ignorant religions preach. Jung mentioned this in some of his work. He had the courage to delve into his unconscious and there he found monsters and also great beauty and love. You can't have one in fullness without the other. This is very scary to grok in fullness. The question is, where do we find the courage to face reality as it actually is? The human races refusal to confront that question will mean that even worse things are coming. One day everyone will realize it's better to not be here in this prison. The dark age is just beginning. How many unknown dark ages has mankind actually passed through? That's a good question.

While not forgetting that Jung is a man of 20th century, let's imagine just for a moment that instead he lived ages ago. If he had lived and produced his ideas three millennia ago, he would be deified and we would know him as a mythical god like imhotep. If he had lived two millennia ago, we would know him today as a prophet and liber novus as the records of his divine revelations. If he had lived a millennium ago, he would be declared a heretic and burned at stake. On the contrary, these are factual events after all. How many Jungs have passed before?
