Do not compare prices from a 1st world country to a 3rd world country real state market dollar-X-dollar or peso in this case. That's the reason why the prices in DR are getting sooo much inflated, because foreigners are willing to pay these above market prices for property rental and sales.

What about medical facilities? What about the location of a grocery store?

I remember growing up watching lifestyles of the rich and famous and MTV Cribs just to see how other people live and how much it cost. I never thought the person showing it was trying to sell anyone anything. When I retire I will likely be able to afford something like that in the DR but I would want to do more with my money like travel than buying a really nice crib. To each his own though.
