Another great presentation. I would love it if Dr. Matt would create his own KZbin channel! He does make a minor mistake when he states that the female aspect of the divine "...reemerges in Christianity in the form of Mary". This is true with regard to Catholicism. Protestants, however, explicitly deny Mary's divinity and consider Mary-worship to be "idolatry"; they in fact point toward that "idolatry" as a way to demonstrate that Protestantism is superior to "corrupted" Catholicism.

Alan Mclemore yes, I was a Mary-worshipping Catholic once but now I see that the very idea of a "Queen of Heaven" is an abomination in God's sight (Jeremiah 7 and 44).

Alan Mclemore The Zohar was written centuries prior to the Protestant Reformation; the rejection of Mary by some Christians was not contemporary with the Zohar. Rather, the Western European flowering of the honoring of Mary arose around that time. Prof. Matt is talking about history there, not theology as such, in order to place the emergence of the Zohar and similar literature in historical context. Roman Catholicism was Western Christianity at that time. Trust me, he knows the difference. Prof. Matt teaches Zohar to anyone interested, by Zoom. You can enroll via his Facebook page. He’s a very nice guy, btw, and wouldn’t say it, but he’s the foremost living scholar of Zohar teaching in English, and arguably, in the world.
