Check out my website at thoughtbythoughthealing.com if you are looking for help to start your healing journey from chronic symptoms.
Today I had the honor of having David Hanscom, MD with me. He was a spinal surgeon for 32 years and now helps people recover from chronic back pain through non- surgical means and by understanding the body and mind are one unit.
Through understanding threat physiologic and the inflammation the brain causes, we can reverse chronic pain and stop diseases.
In today's talk, he discusses practicing joy, the threat physiology response of anger and anxiety, why he quit spine surgery and answers some of the questions my watchers had asked in advance. He also discusses chronic inflammation of the body.
He also talks about:
Threat physiology (4:55)
Success (or not) of spine surgery (10:40)
Forgiveness (36:30)
Dealing with anger with his method called 5,3,2 (37:30)
The 2 parts of healing (39:20)
Prehab for surgery (42:30)
Connecting to your disbelief (43:30)
Becoming a professional at living life (45:50)
How to distinguish neuroplastic pain from structural pain (47:00)
Degenerative changes such as bulges discs, bone spurs, herniations, degenerative arthritis. (47:25)
The ability to halt autoimmune diseases (55:15)
He also discusses degenerative disc disease, bulged discs, herniations, (47:25) and how there is no data showing they cause pain. He also discusses halting autoimmune diseases including ankylosing spondylitis, (55:)
Send me an email at thoughtbythoughthealing.com if you want a copy of his pdf regarding expressive writing. It's fantastic!

The part where he gives simple, easy to implement things to do to stimulate the vagus nerve and subsequently lower the stress response in our bodies was wonderful!

This was an amazing interview. Love the way he explains and his examples. Anyone who is “collecting evidence” for TMS in whatever condition you have…this is a good one!

Thank you! The last part of this interview give me so much hope, that by doing mind body work we can be healed from autoimmune diseases( by decreasing inflammation we can change the physiology).

Best interview I've seen yet on this topic. More information than I can process so I guess I'll have to watch it again.

Excelente entrevista! Todas las personas con TMS deberían verla! Yo leí el libro del Doctor Hanscom, y recomiendo mucho su lectura. Hay muchísima gente sufriendo de dolor crónico que no tienen acceso a esta información

Yeah - some podcasts are more meant to inform - to help people understand and believe the science of mind body syndrome. This episode was that- less about what to do about it or what the work looks like :)

"He also discusses degenerative disc disease, bulged discs, herniations, (47:25) and how there is no data showing they cause pain." So I listened to this I don't know how there is a lack of data when it is easy to demonstrate. Is the problem the gathering of the data? I can trigger pain by putting pressure where my disc-bulge pinches my nerves.

If you’re wondering if your pain is neuroplastic, take the pain test on my website. I could manually trigger my pain before I addressed my healing with mind body pain too. But it turns out it was still not structural. But if you’re not curious if your pain is mind body, no worries. Not everyone is interested in this type of conversation.
