In an interview with Urban Health Today, Denise Powell, MD, emphasized that advocacy in health care involves a range of activities, from assisting patients with medication access and insurance issues to engaging in policymaking through medical organizations and local politics. According to Dr. Powell, advocacy also includes direct patient support, working with health care professionals, and influencing broader health policies at community and national levels. Dr. Powell is a board-certified pediatrician, a Climate and Health Equity Fellow, and a Mississippi Rural Physicians Scholar.
