I was in the studio audience on May 23, 2007 for this performance. I enjoyed the song immensely, and have heard it here on KZbin at least 20 times. If any of the band members reads this, I am the guy who chatted with you outside the stage door on the street afterwards while the union stagehands were moving out your equipment, and I said you did a great job and I mentioned that your song reminded me of another song I'd enjoyed as a kid, "The Thoughts of Emerlist Davjack", by the Nice, (1967). You can hear it here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bHanYnRqisSFg68 Keep up the great work!

I had a discussion with another dr. dog fan and we came to the realization that just because influence is derived from another place, doesnt mean someone cant be "original". I find dr. dog to be fresh and quite unusual to what we hear today. with music, you dont hear some sort of influence with what you hear? artists have influences, you cant escape it, but that doesnt mean they have to sound exactly like the influence. any disagreements? cuz i dont really wanna hear them, haha, this is tiring..

love this record and this band - never seen them live but i imagine they're better in a small club than this... they seem really nervous at first (who wouldn't be? playing on Letterman is a huge audience!) and the sunglasses were probably a bad idea in retrospect...

Liking Dr. Dog doesn't negate liking the Beatles or Buddy Holly or the Kinks or any band you could say they're imitating. If someone likes music, who are you to tell them that they shouldn't? Isn't that like trying to convince someone something was funny?

Horrible? Do me a favor and go look up live videos of the Beatles playing in Japan or something of the sort from around '65. I think you'll understand what I'm getting at then... that studio vocals are always going to be perfect.. and live vocals aren't going to be note perfect. BTW, did you guys miss the energy of their performance? The oldness, but newness of their sound? They make real music... unfortunately in today's business they can't be the mainstream pop... what a pity

Of course you are allowed to value and judge music. What I mean is, that a musician never sees music as being able to compete about what is "best", simply because music isn't a sport. Besides, Animal Collective is experimental in a whole other different way than dr dog. Woukd you say that Mozarts was not original just because the use of instruments was similar to many other composers of his time?
