Absolutely, regarding the psychological approach. Even when I did my BSc in 2006 it disillusioned me. It’s very narrow and restrictive and I’m so glad to be seeing disciplines merging, albeit slowly. My disillusionment lead to me pursuing a much more holistic approach and practice on human well-being/health care as a psychotherapist and hypnotherapist: I had to pursue a holistic avenue because stand alone disciplines did not work in my eyes, and nor do they work in my current private practice.

What a delight to meet & hear from this influential mentor who shared the path less traveled with you! Breaking ground can be a lonely venture (as expressed here); but rare moments of inspiration & encouragement can bring incredible light into the picture. Your shared appreciation of that light is undeniable here.

I would be interested to hear about the drawing skills of schizophrenics. Betty Edwards' book "Drawing on the Right Side of The Brain" was seminal to opening my awareness of hemispheric difference. I have also found, as a Steiner/Waldorf teacher, a seminal core of teaching the young child 'from the whole to the parts' to be based on a fuller grasp of human development than is the norm.

When I make art I have to turn the piece upside down to work on the left side, so it's in the right. When i have extreme stress my world gets more visually alive. Where everything has significance embedded in it. The very growth patterns of trees and vines that climb sing. I wish I could control this and live in that reality all the time. It's truer.

Perhaps left hemisphere overdrive is only part of it. Jung said: When conscious life is characterised by one-sidedness and false attitudes, primordial healing images are activated - one might say instinctively - and come to light in the dreams of individuals and the visions of artists’ he also said ‘Schizophrenia is a condition in which the dream takes the place of reality.’ The right hemisphere may be much more adept at interpreting dreamlike content. Perhaps schizophrenia is ‘drowning in the waters the mystic swims in with delight’ because the mystic has the faculties of the right hemisphere to help them deal with this mythic, archetypal, unconscious, collective unconscious, type content. The schizophrenic may be incapable of coping because of left hemisphere overdrive and right hemisphere atrophy or deficiency due to lack of development.

Or brain damage , when dreams become sterile and redundant because the debilitation of interpretation is coincidenced by debilitation of purposeful dream formation.

You'd think that paying €120 for Iain's latest book would qualify you to be able to watch the entire conversation with John Cutting.

I always said when I first started psychadelics the interal monologue when away and to speak about it was to falsify or change the experience itself into something it wasnt.

I've often wondered where my words came from and why writing them out seems to be a dimensionally lacking rationalization

To speak about a situation is necessarily to transform the experience in a way that remove the context... Ultimately the nature of a situation shows itself forward only in the context of everything else and thus can only be understood in silence... therefore to speak about it is to break up the context and to interfer with it. If you want someone to see what you see... just shut up and show them... dont say a damn word because no one was speaking about it in the first place... so keep it that way.
