Kitui county under Dr. Irene Kasalu, The County Member of Parliament and woman representative has received a face lift. Two years under her administration, lives have been transformed and hope restored to homes which were rather nose-diving to realities of anguish and dire poverty.
To give poverty a terminal blow, Dr. Irene’s flagship project on education has seen more than 200 youths under full sponsorship get NITA certificates and diplomas lifting the burden of education financing from poor and vulnerable families. Others have received full scholarships at milele College doing different courses like ict, catering, P1, ECD among other tertiary trainings
Mama county is also fully sponsoring 50 students from form 1 to form 4 in addition to 50 school dropouts in an effort to empower them to become dependable persons in the society.
Water in Kitui county is a challenge especially to school going young ones. Mama Miradi as popularly known has distributed 300 water harvesting tanks to primary and secondary schools across the county.
Dr. Irene distributes sanitary towels indiscriminatingly to all school girls from class 6 all the way to form four. She uses this rare moment to talk to girls on matters early sex, unwanted pregnancies and the threat of conducting STIs.
Talent search through music and football is empowering youths, snatching them from the snares of drugs and drug abuse. Mama Vijana hosts an annual football tournament where participants are given uniforms and financial support to empower them.
Market vendors have not escaped the attention on Mama Miradi. She has distributed over 6000 umbrellas to shield business people from scotching sun and rains, hence enabling them do business round the clock.
Women are the pillars of our society, with over 40% of rural homes headed by a woman. Dr. Kasalu is fulfilling her promises and so far, more than 800 women have benefited from grants she channels to Women Empowerment Fund.
People living with physical challenges have been on the forefront of Dr. Irene’s agenda. She has distributed more than 200 wheel chairs in an effort enhance them tackle daily life with ease.
Kasalu has also been key to helping calamity stricken families by restoring them back to normalcy.
For wealth creation and empowering women, Mama Miradi has distributed 1500 chairs and 20 tents to different women groups across Kitui county
Our youths face myriad challenges sourcing finances to start businesses. Dr. Kasalu initiated KICONSA Sacco which finances youths to acquire bodabodas which they repay over time and eventually own the motocycle.
For holistic transformation, Dr. Kasalu equips less privileged NITA graduates to start their own businesses.
